CVS to expand store

The CVS store in Tenleytown is expanding into an adjacent space that once housed Mattress Discounters, according to the D.C. Department of Consumer and Regulatory Affairs.

CVS received a permit from the DCRA Jan. 8 and has already begun renovation. A temporary wall blocks the pharmacy and bricks cover the previous storefront next door, indicating work has begun.

The permit information released by the DCRA said there would be "a general re-layout" of the store. The CVS pharmacy has been moved from the back of the store to the left side, but it is not known if this change is permanent.

Gwen Davis of the DCRA said CVS received the permit after it submitted an application detailing the project and all necessary building plans.

CVS representatives were unavailable for comment.

AU students who like to wander the aisles of the CVS in Tenleytown are excited by the prospect of an even larger store.

"I think it'll be a good thing, depending on the retail they stock," said sophomore John Calabrese. "More snack-foodey things would be nice."

There are students who wish something different had been done with the space, like freshman Zach Copeland.

"I wish they would put in a Burger King ... or a movie theater," Copeland said. "That'd be cool"
