Hundreds of animal rights activists gathered in the Ward Circle building Friday, Saturday and Sunday for the third National Student Animal Rights Conference.
The conference was organized by the Student Animal Rights Alliance. The objective of the alliance is to unite hundreds of young activists to take a leading role in the animal rights movement. Other goals include strengthening cooperation and networking among academic, local and national groups.
Speakers included Carol Adams, author of "Living Among Meat Eaters" and a frequent speaker on human rights, and Matt Ball, executive director and co-founder of Vegan Outreach. The event was also sponsored by the Animal Protection Institute, AnimalsVoice.com and In Defense of Animals.
Participants in the event learned about various animal rights abuses and what they can do to address them. In addition there were various venders of vegan food. According to sophomore Erica Goslin, the event was a success and the vegan beef jerky was a surprise.
