Vice president of Enrollment Services Tom Myers resigned yesterday, a memo from AU President Benjamin Ladner stated.
"Vice President Myers has been a valuable member of the University leadership and the President's cabinet since 1995, and we appreciate his many contributions to American University," Ladner stated in the memo. "We wish him well."
As vice president of Enrollment Services, Myers oversaw admissions, financial aid, media relations, University publications, public relations and marketing, information services and administrative computing.
Todd Sedmak, director of Media Relations, expressed his and his office's best wishes for Myers.
"My office and many others here at AU will miss him dearly," Sedmak said. "He has worked hard and accomplished much while he's been here."
Ladner appointed Cheryl Storie, Myers's assistant vice president, to serve as acting vice president.
"I am looking forward to working with the University community and campus leadership in the coming months," Storie said in an e-mail.
Storie stated that she had just learned about the resignation Wednesday and was unaware of the reason.
Chief of Staff David Taylor also said that he did not know why Myers left.
"All I know is what you've got in the memo," Taylor said. "Everybody wishes him well. He indeed was an active and contributing member of the President's cabinet for nine years."
Ladner's memo states, "we will begin preparations for a search process to fill the position as soon as possible."
Taylor said more information will follow "in the days and weeks to come."
Myers was not available for comment by press time.
Myers started working as an administrator at the University of Southern California in Los Angeles as the director of Information Systems and Research. He then served as director of Admissions at York University in Toronto for four years before coming to AU, according to the University Web site.
