Alcohol Awareness Week events

Sunday, Oct. 19

Football and Root Beer Hughes Formal Lounge, 1p.m. Mocktail Beach Party Hughes Hall 5th floor lounge, 6:30 p.m.

Drinking Games Letts Hall, 7 p.m. Hosted by The Naked Truth, Student Advocacy Center and Letts Hall, this program is aimed at reducing alcohol-related risks in a non-preachy, entertaining, and proactive fashion similar to "Sex, Milk and Cookies." Applicable laws, conduct standards and repercussions are reviewed but take a backseat to alcohol awareness themes such as responsible drinking, caring for friends, and 'drinking myths'

Mocktails McDowell Hall, 9 p.m.

Monday, Oct. 20

Mocktails The 3rd and 4th Floors of Capital Hall will sponsor a Mocktails program to kick-off NCAAW. (Capital Hall 2nd Floor Lounge)

Keep your Life Out of Jeopardy! Hughes Formal Lounge, 9 p.m. Bulletin boards on the floors will provide answers for this game from the popular TV game. Prizes include a $50 gift certificate to a surprise venue!

Tuesday, Oct. 21

The Century Club Hughes 5th Floor Lounge, 8 p.m. A game of 100 shots of juice where students will also be aware of facts of mind and body.

The Drinking Game Hughes 7th Floor Lounge, 9 p.m. Life-sized board game with questions regarding alcohol safety tips and important facts.

Wednesday, Oct. 22

Kegs on the Quad The main Quad, Noon. Sponsored by the National Society of Collegiate Scholars.

Black & Red Night Leonard Hall Chancery, 8 p.m. The hall will host an alcohol-free party in which all guests will be encouraged to wear all black outfits and be served mock-red wine as they dance away to a DJ in a Euro-style night club setting.

Say What Karaoke The Tavern, 8 p.m. Come spin the karaoke Wheel of Death! Put on an awesome costume and belt out the song. Tons of Prizes, sponsored by Eagle Nights, Coca Cola and the Class of 2005

BREWster's Millions Hughes Formal Lounge, 9 p.m. Participants will be given a certain amount of "money" which is equivalent to a night out drinking to plan an event that does not involve alcohol. Prizes and food will be given.

Toga Party Letts Formal Lounge, 9 p.m. Mocktails will be served while participants are dressed in traditional toga fashion. This event is co-sponsored by Letts Hall and the Letts Hall RHA.

Alcohol Awareness Jeopardy McDowell Hall 3rd Floor Lounge, 10 p.m. A challenge of alcohol facts.

Thursday, Oct. 23

Happy Hour Bender Arena Lobby, 7 p.m. Alcohol-free Tavern with wings, munchies, live music and, of course, drinks.

Keynote Presentation "Last Call" Bender Arena, 8:15 p.m. Sponsored by the Office of Greek Life and the Office of the Dean of Students. Screaming With Pleasure'sÿ "Last Call" is an exciting, entertaining, and captivating production using comedy, drama, juggling, and other vaudevillian techniques to shed light on a number of substance abuse issues.

Root Beer Social Bethesda Grand Lounge, 10 p.m.

Friday, Oct. 24

Brown Bag Lunch with MADD SIS Lounge, 12:30 p.m. A representative from Mother's Against Drunk Driving will be giving a talk in the SIS lounge about how alcohol has affected her life.

Classy and Sober 7 p.m. A night of dinner and mocktails.

Saturday, Oct. 25

Greek Life Parent Reception 3 p.m. Sponsored by the Office of Greek Life and the Office of Dean of Students. A Night in White Park Bethesda Grand Lounge, 10 p.m. Food, fun and DJ Charisma.


Section 202 host Gabrielle and friends go over some sports that aren’t in the sports media spotlight often, and review some sports based on their difficulty to play.
