Nearly every college campus in the United States uses blue light tower phone systems for campus safety. At American University, all a student needs to do is push the red button at a tower, and they will immediately be connected with the AU Police Department while an officer proceeds to their location. In the meantime, the large LED light at the top of the tower will flash.

American University took an important step forward when it divested its endowment from fossil fuels in 2020. By removing all fossil fuel stocks from its endowment portfolio, the University responded not only to demands from its students, but also participated in a moment of reckoning for the fossil fuel industry that came after decades of deceit, disinformation and destruction. Now, the University needs to go a step further; it must cut all ties with the fossil fuel industry.

On Aug. 31, Noah Kahan electrified a crowd of nearly 6,000 at Radio City Music Hall. On a humble, minimalist stage with warm lighting and a backup band of only two instrumentalists, Kahan beamed as he delivered ballad after ballad.
