Study says age gap difficult for adult college students

·

Adult students, which are undergraduate students over the age of 25, are often misunderstood at colleges, according to a recent study conducted by Lumina Foundation for Education. However, support services are offered to all AU students, including "returning students," the term the university uses to distinguish students over the age of 25 because all students are considered to be adults in college, according to Dean of Students Faith Leonard.

Kate Beckinsale and Luke Wilson star as a couple trapped in a hotel room by a killer.

Realistic thriller breaks out of horror mold

·

There are times when Hollywood appears to have forgotten how to frighten its audiences. Lately, many major motion pictures only find the ability to create fear in how grotesquely the victims can be mutilated and butchered. Films such as "Saw" and "Hostel" found their only shock and suspense coming from elaborate and horrific torture scenes.

Bottoms up

A group of American University students had something to hide from their resident assistants the first weekend of the fall '06 semester. And it wasn't their alcohol stash. One member of the group, a freshman who wished to remain anonymous, had just passed out after having played a drinking game and consuming a large volume of hard liquor.

Letters to the editor: Virginia Tech Tragedy

I am writing this letter in regards to the infuriating comments made by Paul Perry about the Virginia Tech massacre. Perry stated that the so-called "deceitful rich kids exacerbated the feelings of social ostracization residing within Cho Seung-Hui" and that "his community failed him.

Food and Drug Administration officials announced Friday they had determined a California hog farm's feed was tainted by the same chemical found in more than 100 recently-recalled brands of pet food, reported Reuters. Officials said they had found the chemical melamine in the feed, which they had earlier determined had caused liver failure in some cats and dogs who consumed pet food tainted by the chemical.

Over-the-top twists do not a 'Perfect' thriller make

"The Perfect Stranger" is interesting at first, but soon overstays its welcome. The film turns out a solid cast, but just can't redeem a shallow and overly twist-filled script based on a story by John Bokenkamp. Recently fired from her job as an investigative journalist at a New York newspaper, Rowena Price (Halle Berry) is quick to immerse herself in catching the killer of a close childhood friend.

The makers of the greatest romantic comedy (with zombies) ever, "Shaun of the Dead," strike the U.S. again this Friday with the latest in their series of parody homage to the film industry - a send up of the buddy-cop actioner titled "Hot Fuzz." The director and stars of these films were kind enough to sit down in a round table discussion of what drove the film, the remarkable cast and insight into how they work.

Remembering Virginia Tech

"Why is it that it takes such a tragedy to find unity on this campus?" That's what passed through my mind as I sat in a dimmed Kay on Monday night, filled with empathy, warmed by being shoulder to shoulder with my peers. What started out as just an amendment to the AU Catholics' Evening Prayer became something uniquely interfaith.

Junior Boys back in D.C. with set that warrants hype

Junior Boys' recent stint in D.C. appeared to be more of a three-band concert rather than a headliner with two openers, as many of the attendees had refreshingly come for the first two bands. The first band to hit the stage was Youth Group. Although at first glance the lead singer appeared to be sporting the lead singer of Wolfmother's curly blonde afro, the only similarity that the two Australian bands share is hair-related.

Staff editorial: Virginia Tech Tragedy Starts Conversations

AU students, like countless others around the world, have spent the last few days grappling with the loss of those at Virginia Tech. We, as a campus, mourn the loss of our peers and the lives they could have led, and struggle to understand why someone could commit such a senseless act of violence against so many innocent people.
