Wrestling team takes individual victories, team defeat

Individually, the men's wrestling team continued to receive impressive performances. However, the team struggled to produce positive results as a team Sunday when they dropped their last Eastern Intercollegiate Wrestling Association contest of the season, 30-14 at Bucknell.

Students start T-shirt, shoe businesses

Nearly 67 percent of teenagers who participated in a Junior Achievement Worldwide survey released Nov. 6 wanted to start their own businesses, according to information on the organization's Web site. Two students studying at AU - Dan Lachman and Kim Mesches - have turned dreams of owning their own businesses into a reality.

Sens. Barack Obama, D-Ill., and Hillary Clinton, D-N.Y., drew record numbers of voters to the Maryland polls during the state's primary elections Tuesday, The Washington Post reported. Nearly 41,000 Democratic voters cast votes for either candidate, while only half as many Republicans showed up.

Hiroshima site shows need for peaceful relations

Hiroshima appears much the same as any other large Japanese city. There are train stations, bright lights, closely packed buildings, karaoke places, temples and shrines. But head for the central part of Hiroshima, the sliver of land located between two of the rivers running through the city, and the ruins of a large building come into view.

Men's basketball rallies past Colgate, wins 68-60

The men's basketball team was forced to come from behind on Sunday afternoon, rallying from nine points down at the half to defeat Colgate 68-60 in Hamilton, N.Y. The game started out on a positive note for the Eagles, who took a 21-15 lead on a three-pointer by junior Brian Gilmore at the 9:39 mark of the first half after trading baskets back and forth with the Raiders during the opening minutes.

Women's lacrosse falls to Ohio State in season opener

The women's lacrosse team lost 14-3 in Saturday's season opener in Columbus, Ohio, against perennial powerhouse Ohio State University. The game started off close, with a 1-1 tie going into the 10th minute. However, after an 8-0 Buckeye run finishing off the first half, the Eagles struggled to find their footing.

MGC, North side dorms hit by water main break

A water main break near the Mary Graydon Center loading dock Tuesday afternoon caused a water pressure disruption in a number of buildings on the North side of campus. The situation started when Public Safety reported water flowing through the tunnel, according to Juan Allen, chief operating engineer for Facilities Management.

Despite another great showing from sophomores Mike Cannon and Kyle Borshoff, the Eagles fell to the Maryland Terrapins in College Park on Wednesday, dropping their record to 3-13 for the year. The night started off on a bad note, as AU was forced to forfeit their 125-lb.

AU ranked 28th among safest college campuses

Reader's Digest ranked AU as the 28th safest campus out of 285 U.S. colleges and universities analyzed for the effectiveness of their public safety programs. The magazine determined campus safety based on U.S. Department of Education crime rate statistics from 2004 and 2005 and a general survey that 135 institutions agreed to participate in, according to Reader's Digest Web site.

College Republicans seek opportunities

Politics on university campuses are meaner than politics in Washington, Former House Majority Leader Dick Armey, R-Texas, said at the College Republicans' annual Republicalooza event held Tuesday night. The event was also an opportunity for students to speak with different companies and agencies to see what kinds of job opportunities and internships were available, according to club President Will Haun.

Dorm Recipe: Versatile and tasty veggie dip

Veggie Dip I often like to snack on vegetables or chips with an appetizing dip. However, I have never been a fan of the ready-made dips you can buy in the grocery store because they are expensive and taste very processed. I find that when you combine sour cream and mayonnaise, it creates a great base for any dip.
