College Republicans make most of Bush's big day

From 5 a.m. to beyond midnight, the College Republicans made the most of Inauguration Day. Ashley Wall, a freshman in the School of Public Affairs, attended inaugural concerts Tuesday and Wednesday, the swearing-in, the parade and a ball.

Unprecedented inaugural security draws mixed reactions

The unprecedented level of security for the 55th presidential inauguration on Thursday is drawing mixed reactions with some, like a protest group and a congresswoman calling it overwhelming, and others, like law enforcement, calling it necessary. Congresswoman Eleanor Holmes Norton (D-DC) feels the security is a little excessive and is upset the city is being forced to pay for it, said her spokesperson Doxie McCoy.

Inaugural events draw students from across nation

Students from across the country came to D.C. last week to participate in the inaugural events - some protesting, some supporting and others simply observing. "It's a historical event that I'll probably only get to see once in a lifetime," said Carolyn McGrady, a senior psychology major at Notre Dame.

Students prep for Northeast Super Bowl

In a season filled with bursts, splatters and wild uncertainty, it was the two teams that asked the fewest questions that wound up on top. As time expired on a cold January night in Pittsburgh, the wonder of a rookie quarterback faded and, once again, the hooded genius proved his worth, as the New England Patriots defeated the Pittsburgh Steelers, 41-27.

Dylan's 'gypsy circus' now on display in Georgetown

On Friday, the Govinda Gallery in Georgetown opened their newest exhibition: "Ken Regan: Bob Dylan's Rolling Thunder Review." In 1975, Bob Dylan and the Rolling Thunder Review, a ragtag bunch of famous people came together to tour the northeast in what Dylan envisioned as a "traveling gypsy circus.

Some at AU avoid inaugural frenzy

While some students planned for the inauguration weeks in advance, others at AU chose not to attend the ceremony or the parade Thursday. Some students cited the desire to sleep in and stay warm. "I didn't go because it was really cold today, and I didn't want to get up on a day I didn't have to go to class," said Jack Giroux, a freshman in the School of Public Affairs.

Job Outlook 2005

The job outlook for college seniors graduating in 2005 is steadily improving, according to a recent survey by the National Association of Colleges and Employers, a nonprofit group based in Bethlehem, Pa. NACE publishes a survey every year of its employer members and their employment projections for future graduates in the upcoming year.

'That'll do.' Babe's ends its 12-year run

Last night, faithful Babe's Billiards patrons gathered to play pool, eat food and drink beer for the last time. Some people came from as far as Houston to mark the closing of the Tenleytown pool hall and bar, while others walked from campus. The AU weekend-night staple closed because its owner lost the bar's lease. A 42-unit, five-story condominium complex will replace it.
