Freshman forward Cecily Carl chose AU after being offered scholarships from 13 different Division I schools, and she has already notched her first collegiate point for the Eagles this season. With Patriot League games approaching, Carl said she looks forward to competing against teams in the conference but remains focused on playing against her remaining non-conference opponents. Carl and the Eagles take the court tonight against the University of Maryland Baltimore County, and she said the team will be playing with an underdog mentality in search of its first win. Earlier this week, The Eagle sat down with Carl to talk Broadway, business and basketball.

Freshman guard Elina Koskimies came to the United States looking for the opportunity to play collegiate basketball, and she has already made contributions to the Eagles this season in her first four games. Before AU, Koskimies attended a sports high school where she traveled across Europe for tournaments, and she said she has enjoyed learning a new style of basketball. For AU alumni old and new, the start of the 2015-2016 basketball season offers a chance to connect with old friends, meet a new crop of players and cheer on the Eagles once again.
When senior School of Communications student Benjamin Zenker met Emily Wolfe for the first time at Freshman Preview Day this spring, he knew immediately that she would be a perfect fit for Blue Crew, an organization that works to promote school spirit and AU athletics on campus.
In late August, AU track and cross country assistant coach Kerri Gallagher stood at the starting line of the women’s 1500m World Championship semifinal to compete against the best runners around the globe. Gallagher finished eighth with a time of 4:17.63, three spots short of advancing to the finals. Today, she not only spends her days racing around the track in preparation for the Olympic Trials, but she also commits dozens of hours each week to working with the AU men’s and women’s cross country teams. Gallagher caught up with The Eagle to talk about her international experience, running career and the lessons she hopes to pass on to her athletes.
