Surrounded by Navy defenders, senior guard Jesse
Reed fired off a step-back three-pointer with one second left on the shot

Eagles their first lead in the second half with 4:37 to play. The Eagles
wouldn’t look back, going on a 17-0 en route to winning the game 72-65.

At the crack of dawn, the collegiate swimmer’s alarm clock blares, signaling the call to wake for a grueling morning workout. The swimmer crawls out of bed and trudges to the pool to prepare for a mentally and physically taxing day of training. The swimmer rises before the sun and travels more yards in the pool before breakfast than most people walk in a day. The regimen requires immense sacrifice on the part of the athlete, but often overlooked in the pathway to success is the role played by the unwavering support system found in a college program’s head coach.

After an unexpected five game win streak, AU reverted back to the underperforming team they were early in the season against the Lehigh Mountain Hawks in a game plagued by missed easy shots, long scoring droughts and flat defense. AU’s sixth game and third on the road in 11 days took a toll on the team, as the Eagles (7-16, 5-7 PL) played out-of-sync from the start. Lehigh raced out to a 10-0 advantage in the first four minutes, and the Eagles never recovered, eventually losing 72-49.

The last time AU faced off against Bucknell, in early January in Lewisburg, Pennsylvania, the game wasn’t much of a contest. The Bison cruised to a 72-54 victory, and all but two Eagles were held to single-digit scoring while four Bison starters posted double-figure scoring performances. Last night, however, AU played like a completely different team, beating Bucknell 69-55 in Bender Arena.

After the first month of conference play, the AU men’s basketball team could not have looked any worse. The Eagles went 0-6 with an average margin of defeat of 15 points. However, this young team has come together over the past week and a half, putting together four straight wins. After three straight road wins against Lafayette, Navy and Colgate, the Eagles returned home and defeated Holy Cross 58-45 on Monday night. After sitting in dead last in the conference for more than a month, the Eagles have now climbed up to seventh place and are just two games out of third place. So what has been the reason for this turnaround? Here are some of the biggest reasons AU has been able to salvage their season and push themselves into Patriot League contention.
