The free-throw line is nicknamed “the charity stripe” for a reason. It’s a simple, 15-foot, uncontested shot. But for the AU men’s basketball team, it has been anything but charitable this season.
After a game of back-and-forth basketball, missed free throws and low scoring percentages, AU’s 57-50 win against Western Illinois on Tuesday night proved to be a game of firsts. For the first time in program history, the Eagles took on an opponent from the Summit League conference and recorded a win for the first time this season.
The AU women’s volleyball team trailed Sunday afternoon 18-14 in the fourth set after dropping the third to the Colgate Raiders when head coach Barry Goldberg called a timeout to calm his players down. After claiming the Patriot League regular season title, the AU women’s volleyball team will host the Patriot League volleyball tournament semifinals and finals for the third straight season beginning Saturday, Nov. 19.
In twenty individual matches over the course of nearly four hours, AU remained consistently dominant, wrestling its way to victory in 13 of the 20 duals and capturing two team wins against Clarion University and Campbell University in Sunday’s double dual.

AU once again overcame the halftime deficit to force overtime and secure both a 2-1 victory and a place in the Patriot League championship game on Sunday.
With its 3-1 victory over Lehigh University in Bethlehem, Pennsylvania on Saturday, the AU men’s soccer team clinched the regular season Patriot League championship and the right to host the semifinals and finals of the Patriot League Tournament.
With its NCAA Tournament play-in game tied at one and time in the second half waning, the AU field hockey team capitalized on a penalty corner opportunity to defeat Kent State 2-1 on Wednesday afternoon at Reeves Field.

Albert Einstein once said that the definition of insanity is doing the same thing over and over again and expecting a different result. Yet, as the clock ticked down at the New Balance Field on the campus of Boston University for the second year in a row, the Eagles started to celebrate a different result. The AU field hockey team sent the ball down the field one final time before breathing a sigh of relief and cheering with joy as they became Patriot League champions after narrowly missing the title against the same team just one year ago.
Following its regular-season ending loss to BU, the AU field hockey team heads to Boston University this weekend in hopes of claiming the program’s 10th Patriot League Tournament title.
