To say that the past nine months have been anything short of incredible in the political world would not give the time period justice. Highlighted by one of the most anticipated elections of all time, in the se nine months we have witnessed history over and over again. Whether it was the elections in Iraq or rallies for abortion, political juices were flowing in everyone's veins.

After a mild winter in Washington, spring has returned to our nation's capital. As flowers bloom and birds whisper a sweet song in the morning air, new life begins. In the political world new life can be witnessed by the rejuvenated bickering between political figures and activists too weak to ever turn their battles into physical confrontation.

Recent courtroom activities and congressional hearings have captured America's attention on a level the likes of which have not been seen since the O.J. Simpson trial a decade ago. Once again the best place to find your favorite celebrity is on reality court TV.

Despite the honors Eagle wrestlers earned this season, they will start over with a 0-0 record at the 2005 EIWA national qualifying tournament Friday and Saturday. This year's tournament is dubbed "The Battle by the Bay," courtesy of the upstart sponsor Real Pro Wrestling.

A recent story about steroids has brought a great deal of scrutiny to the game of baseball by questioning the use by players over the past two decades. For those of you who don't religiously watch "SportsCenter" in the morning, Jose Conseco, a former MLB Most Valuable Player, has published a book in which he exposes the rampant use of steroids by himself and former teammates.

Growing up in a suburban town just outside Boston, I learned a religious level of admiration for the Red Sox. The flip side of this coin was obviously our never-ending hatred for the Yankees. Our acceptance of this was as natural as the leaves changing color in the fall. From the on-field fights to the unreal losses, every aspect of the rivalry was poetry to fans of tragedy. But now that same old song and dance is adopting a new spin.

Over winter break, AU Wrestling head coach Mark Cody led his wrestlers into battle at two holiday tournaments, including the Midlands Championships. Other than the national tournament in March, Midlands is considered the nation's toughest tournament, featuring the top wrestlers from each weight.

Winning a dual meet in Division I while giving away a forfeit is a difficult task. Injuries have forced the AU wrestling team to give away forfeits in the first three weights this year. And Wednesday night, the Eagles traveled to Lock Haven where the 18-point deficit put AU's back against the mat.

I have fond memories of my childhood. From playing tag with the girls we liked at recess to gearing up for our little league baseball games, it was the time of our lives. At the end of the week it would, of course, be time for church. I would have rather slept in most of those Sundays, but my parents wanted their children to grow up with God in their life. Sure it was grueling to get through that hour of Sunday school, but it was nothing a few doughnut holes afterward couldn't settle. The world seemed at peace, and I knew God was in my life for the rest of the week.

As the tears in many AU students eyes said loudly Wednesday, many are very disappointed with the results of Tuesday's election. While I did not love or hate either candidate this time around, I do feel that the overall message of the Republican Party was something worth supporting. Beyond that, I feel that the Democrats have their work cut out for them if they ever expect this party to succeed, but right now, sulking seems to be working for them.

In the '60s and late '70s, music carried a powerful message about politics and life. Songs such as "Where have all the Flowers Gone" and "Fortunate Son" were symbolic of a generation of youths nearly lost to an unnecessary war that blew up in our nation's face. Despite the artificiality of today's music, pop culture has once again stepped up to the plate thinking it can make a difference. The difference is this comeback seems more like Michael Jordan's third NBA tour than the revival it intended on delivering.

On Thursday night America got its first chance to witness a head-to-head battle between President Bush and Princess Kerry. Even with a lack of substance to support himself, Kerry appeared to come away with a narrow victory.

After the Sept. 11 attacks, George W. Bush was given a unique opportunity to prove himself as a leader to a country that doubted him. He told us that if we fought together against this terrorist threat, then we would win. But for much of the nation, Bush has been the terror, and the battle against him has become the most apparent one.
