Positive and evolutionary political ideas are active processes that are supported by innovative ideas instead of rigid, dualist ideologies. A political opinion does not break down to some range between light and dark but is instead one of an endless amount of precise sides in a political debate, supported with reason and intelligence.

American University will cause any logical person with the slightest concept of political ideas to become steaming mad at one idea or another. The outlets for such emotion generally consist of uselessly irrational political banter. Having felt such pressures before, I want to thank Will Haun for writing an article so asinine that I actually chuckled and became happy rather than angry. From the bottom of my heart, thank you for being ridiculous enough in your analysis of national security that I can actually create a logical piece dedicated to dismantling your opinion. You rock, Will.

I wasn't old enough to really feel the blow of the death of Kurt Cobain. Don't act like I'm some weirdo from that generation who was the only person who wasn't listening to the late icon. I was 10 years old. Most fourth-graders are lighting farts, not wearing torn grunge pants and drinking all night.

Friday, Nov. 19: It was a pleasant night at our apartment. We were entertaining plenty of slightly tipsy, rather joyful bright young men and women, listening to Mos Def's new jam and preparing to head out to our friend's 21st birthday party. The Television was playing an entertaining basketball game between two heated NBA rivals, the Detroit Pistons and the Indiana Pacers. The Pacers had begun to pull away and sealed up the game. On a meaningless fast break with less than a minute to go, Ron Artest fouled Ben Wallace probably a little too hard as Big Ben swooped in for the dunk. Wallace was pissed and shoved Artest hard in the face, which prompted a "WHOA!" from the crowd in Apartment 618.

When I saw that the Eagle would publish any editorial this week regardless of length, I thought about all the things that I felt I needed to say something about. The media, the bureaucratic waste of the school, dysfunctional student government, the way that the National Cathedral is under-appreciated by the AU student body, George W. Bush... well, you get the picture. I could write something nasty about people, without pulling punches, and there are plenty out there that deserve it. But I'm not in the mood for that garbage. This editorial will instead be a tribute to a man that has inspired since the days of Hakeem Olajuwon in 1994.

Nooooooooooooooooo! He's back again, folks. Ready to sap votes in as many states as he can make the ballot in. Does Ralph Nader have nearly the amount of support that he had before? Could he possibly think that he will win the election? Is this a movement to advance our country toward progression? Is a Kerry or Edwards presidency so disturbing that we must throw our votes into an independent instead of pragmatically defeating a man we agree is overstepping his bounds?

On that winter day in Harlem, Al Gore extended his plan in blessing to Howard Dean. It's almost like a fairy tale. Don't be fooled, my fellow dems. It is not so easy as this. Howard Dean is less like a Knight in Shining Armor than a great primary politician and expert fundraiser. Dean doesn't play clean, and he doesn't play nice. He's rough, tough, and ready to wrestle anyone who dares call him a wooly-eyed liberal. I will shortly say I have my doubts about Howard Dean. He has an oratorical delivery that is hard to sell, a stereotype to overcome, and possibly the greatest political mind of our time (Karl Rove, unfortunately) to defeat.

We're not waking up, and I just don't get it.
