With the backdrop of American University’s top-5 ranking on The Princeton Review’s list of campuses with the most politically active students, an AU sophomore hopes to improve the University’s relationship with the surrounding D.C. community by winning his bid for elected office.



AU’s political groups ramp up campaigning efforts for 2020 election

American University’s student-run organizations have been preparing for the 2020 and off-year elections with get-out-the-vote campaigning. The College Democrats, College Republicans and Democratic presidential candidate student groups are all doing their part to mobilize their peers as part of a larger effort nationwide to increase turnout at the ballot box next November. 


SG Referendum abolishing class and student councils fails

The referendum abolishing class and student councils failed with 57.6% of non-abstaining students voting for the referendum, short of the two-thirds majority required for constitutional amendments. The other referenda, one for changing the start date of senate terms and one that gives School of Education students senate representation under the CAS senator, passed, receiving 85.8% and 87.3% of the vote, respectively.
