MAGFest

Celebrate video games and music and the annual MAGFest convention

The event will feature guest panels, musical performances and gaming competitions.

MAGFest, an annual gaming and music convention, will make its way to the Gaylord National Resort and Convention Center on Feb. 18 and last until Feb. 21. Guest panels, musical performances and gaming events will fill the gamers paradise this year.

The panel of special guests will feature Alexander Brandon, a video game music writer who has written hits such as “Unreal’ and ‘Deus Ex.” “Bordertime” writer Anthony Burch and “Adventure Time” actress Ashley Burch will join Brandon on the panel. Brandon has made his career in the industry by writing music for video games, and he has even written a book about the process of producing music for the gaming industry.

For students who prefer listening to music rather than gaming, the convention will also host a plethora of musicians who will perform at the event. Headlining musicians include You Bred Raptors, a band that has a legal permit to perform in the New York City subways. The experimental, post-rock group features a cello, eight-string bass, drums and two glockenspiels. Other acts include San Jose-based Super Soul Bros, Mega Ran and K-Murdock, SkyBlew and Kadesh Flow and more.

The highlight of the convention, of course, is the games themselves. Arcade-style games and consoles, which will be set up in a variety of stations for free play, will entertain gamers at the event. MAGFest will also host official gaming tournaments for those looking for a competitive way to play. Originally known as Mid-Atlantic Gaming Festival, the 14th annual MAGFest comes to D.C. jam-packed with activity and excitement.
