The Scene Weekender: The quest for rock n’ roll

1. DJ Questlove at The Howard Theatre
What: Questlove has proven that he can pretty much play a hair comb and produce a hit song, as exhibited by popular videos from Jimmy Fallon with Carly Rae Jepsen and Mariah Carey. Mr. Quest now tours as a DJ. He will be at The Howard Theatre.
When: Feb. 28 at 11 p.m.

2. Josh Ritter Acoustic Set at the Lincoln Theatre
What: Wistful, intimate folk music is set to fill the air at Lincoln Theatre with singer-songwriter Josh Ritter, known for his expressive voice and unique country-pop blend.
When: Feb. 28 – March 1

3. Band of Horses: A Special Acoustic Session
What: Seattle-based indie sweethearts Band of Horses, known for their autumnal, dreamy sound along the lines of My Morning Jacket and The National , stops by D.C. for the latest installment of their national acoustic tour.

4. Slick Rick, Rakim at The Howard Theatre
What: Legendary hip-hop artists Slick Rick and Rakim are set to dole out some rhymes at the Howard Theatre.

What: A screening of “Girl Rising,” a documentary following the lives of nine young girls around the world and their efforts to obtain an education despite facing injustices and obstacles.

6. Made in the USA: American Masters from the Phillips Collection, 1850-1970 at the Phillips Collection
What: The Phillips Collection has assembled a compendium of modern American painters from the likes of Georgia O’ Keeffe, Edward Hooper and Clyfford Still.
When: March 1 through Aug. 31

7. Shaggy at The Fillmore
What: Shaggy, known for his normally incomprehensible dialect, will be at The Fillmore Silver Spring to confuse and entrance audiences leaving them in a priapic glee. Beware of Mr. Lova Lova, he claims he’s smooth as silk. We believe him.
When: March 2 at 8 p.m.

8. Modern American Realism: The Sara Roby Foundation Collection at the Smithsonian American Art Museum
What: It’s so real. It’s almost as if it’s…modern American realism. Mind blown yet? Exactly. The Smithsonian American Art Museum has collected works from Wolf Kahn, he’s a howl, Isabel Bishop and more.
When: Feb. 28

9. Washington Stage Guild presents ‘The Diary of Adam and Eve’ by Mark Twain
What: Mark Twain’s indomitable wit and verve made him one of America’s greatest humorists. The Washington Stage Guild will present “The Diary of Adam and Eve.”

10. Mama Mia at the National Theatre
What: Mama Mia. Here we go again. My, my. Can’t believe the National Theatre is staging a production of the famed broadway musical featuring ABBA’s greatest hits. Which is all of them in this show for all ages.

11. Screenings of Oscar-Nominated Documentaries and Short Films at National Archives
What: Free showings of Oscar-nominated documentaries and short films including “The Square,” “The Act of Killing” and “Dirty Wars.”

12. Public Service Broadcasting plays D.C. with Harness Flux
What: Public Service Broadcasting is a London-based duo known for their unique blending of instrumental electronic music with samples of archival footage from British war-era propaganda films.

13. Rock of Ages at The Warner Theatre
What: D.C. wasn’t built on rock n’ roll and quite frankly they might not want to be known for that anyway, but The Warner Theatre will stage the famous jukebox musical “Rock of Ages.” It features songs from Styx, Bon Jovi, Poison and more.
When: March 2

14. The Mellish at Mellow Mushrooms: Adams Morgan
What: Dance and party to music from The Mellish, a “high-energy funk outfit,” at Mellow Mushroom Pizza Bakers and enjoy a wide variety of food and beverages on the side.
