DC theater opens film festival on human rights

Films have the capacity to make an emotional impact, enrich the human experience and entertain.

Beginning Feb. 12 at the West End Cinema, a series of movies focused on human rights will screen as part of the Human Rights Watch Film Festival.

“We were looking for ways to introduce ourselves to the community for special events and we asked if [Human Rights Watch] would like to have a D.C. presence,” Josh Levin, manager of the West End Cinema, said.

The process of curating the schedule for the D.C. leg of the festival started with picking five films that would run from its Feb. 12 premiere until March 12. Each succeeding week, the theater will usher a new film and Q&A session with the filmmakers will follow.
