The closing came after the National Weather Service issued a winter storm warning lasting until 11 p.m. tomorrow.

The city is expected to get between five and 10 inches of snow, according to a prediction by the Washington Post. Snow greater than eight inches could potentially stop above-ground Metro rail service, according to the Washington Metropolitan Area Transit Authority website.

Rail and bus service may be delayed or canceled if weather conditions worsen, according to a WMATA weather advisory.
