Concert Pick: Maximo Park at U Street Music Hall

After selling more than two million albums and rising to double-gold status, Britpop band Maximo Park is back on tour.

The band will stop by D.C. on Sept. 15 to play at the U Street Music Hall, in a deviation from U Hall’s characteristically dance-minded live shows.

The band is on tour for the first time in five years, supporting their most recent album “National Health.” The band’s new album was long in the making, following the band’s brief hiatus.

After taking several necessary years off, over which the band’s lead singer Paul Smith recorded a solo album “Margins.” The time off proved to be worth the wait because “National Health” is their best yet, as the Mercury Prize-nominated band looks to replicate their past albums’ successes.

“Health” is the band’s fourth studio album, but the first recorded with Straight to the Sun Records, a label famous for working with Alice Cooper and Jeff Simmons.

Supporting Maximo Park at U Hall is a doubleheader of Midwest indie rock groups, The Neighbourhood and Stagnant Pools.
