A Washington state native known for his soulful sound, Allan Stone will bring his hippie-soul vibes to the 9:30 club on Sept. 27.
Stone separates himself from the typical indie music of the Northwest. Stone quickly fell in love with soul music in his early teens. His voice has become well known for its power and raw emotion, drawing comparisons from critics to Marvin Gaye and Stevie Wonder.
Playing into the comparison, Stone often likes to perform covers of Gaye and Wonder songs during his shows. However, even in his own music the similarity is clear, as songs like “The Wind” and “Unaware” showcase his soulful powerhouse of a voice.
Stone also uses his music to comment on contemporary issues, with “Unaware” discussing the current economic deficit and “What I’ve Seen” taking on political corruption.
Opening for Allen Stone will be Sister Sparrow & the Dirty Birds and Tingsek. Sister Sparrow & the Dirty Birds echo the soul in Stone’s music with a New Orleans twist. Tingsek, a Swedish native, has a more folk-alternative sound that incorporates smooth sounds of a string quartet and harmonica.
Stone is currently holding a contest on his website offering a signed vinyl and a four tickets to one fan who prints out Stone’s tour poster and uploads a picture to Facebook of themselves with the poster before the concert.
