Eagle Rants April 16, 2012

•For the record, my life actually is Rob Coy, and I've never woken up spooning a trash can. Just sayin'.

•At first I used to feel really embarrassed for all the stupid stuff I did when I was drunk here. You know what? At this point everyone that hates can suck my nuts, this is the last time in my life I'll be able to do crazy things with crazy people and I'm having a blast... along with making straight As.

•@In the long run. In the long run we're all dead. In the mean time, there is still discrimination. Is there discrimination in every firm? No. Does it still exist though and limit women (even those who decide not to have children)? Yes.

•"In the long run, in a capitalistic economy, a gender pay gap simply can't exist." No, this is bad economics. You're basically arguing that no asset can be undervalued in the long run, which is true if you assume that people have perfect information about the value of that asset. In this case, they do not, because the value of labor is usually quite difficult to quantify.

•I'm the original ranter trying to win her ex bf back. It's next weekend, sorry for the confusion. I'll keep you updated! (Also that means there's time for more advice :) )

•@Bullying Club- I can meet around 6 that day! and to the other person inquiring about this- I definitely want to address the root of the problem; I am also sick of clubs that claim to make a difference by putting up posters and such. I would not waste my time doing that no worries.

•@Wants to join Bullying Club - (original replier here) Obviously we haven't discussed it yet beyond what is said in rants, but personally I would prefer to do something more than just raise awareness. Chime in with your availabilities while we figure out a meeting time!

•Everything was going so well, but then..BAM.. "we have to talk". Never ever ever a good line. My heart hurts.

•@the people who ranted back at Photography club, original poster here. I now know that there are people who love photography as much as I do (I have no photography friends), but I can't meet you due to the super secret nature of Eagle Rants. Maybe I'll look into starting a club.

•@”So frustrated by all the anti-abortion ranters. An embryo is not a baby/person in the exact same way that an acorn is not a tree.” I read rants every day and there was never a rant that said an embryo was a person. But a 20 week old fetus is NOT am embryo. Neither is a 10 months of fetus. But nice try creating a strawman argument.

•Dear Queen of the Quad, you make my days. Thank you.

•In terms of workability (ability to work the most hours for a corporation) men on average have more workability than women for the simple fact that men will never need to be hospitalized to give birth and recover from birth. Assuming men and women take sick days and vacation days at equal rates, the fact remains that women are the sex that gives birth and the fact is that giving birth does hinder workability. As a woman who plans to give birth many times, I see nothing wrong with an 8% on average pay gap. This seems logical to me.

•I'm the hero of this story; don't need to be saved.

•Can SG approach Panera and try to get them to take Eaglebucks? If they can do this, I think their approval rating will shoot up.

•@”I wish there was a virtual world where I could practice my social skills and develop confidence. Maybe then I could find the courage to talk to you.” Have you heard of SIMS? It helped me develop social skills.

•Can we stop focusing on the pay gap issue and focus on more immediate female needs than which gender has more money? Let’s focus on making birth control over the counter so it is accessible to all those people who don’t have medical insurance and can’t afford it. Plan B is over the counter and plan B is just a very high dose of birth control (and has many more possible complications that birth control). It’s time to end the control of women’s sexuality via doctors. Take back your reproductive control women!

•@”Personally, women who are already alive > embryos.” I agree. And after 8 weeks the life is no longer an embryo. So therefore there should be no abortions after 8 weeks. It shouldn’t take 4 weeks of missed period to go and get the abortion pill.

•@"Out students are every bit as bright as GW students. I hate that our ranking is so low." HAHAHA. Sad.

•That awkward moment when all your roommate does is go on facebook and get wasted... how are you not failing out?!

•Vegas people are just plain weird

•we are the creatures

•@"Feminazi is one of the most disgusting terms out there. As a Jewish feminist..." #suckstosuck

•The MudBox has the worst coffee on campus. I'm not sure if it's just worse quality or if the employees don't know how to mix the drinks, but every time I get something there the flavor is always incredibly weak compared to megabites.

•I just realized that the yearbook is called the Talon in reference to that we are the Eagles, and not because it was named after beloved SOC professor Scott Talan. I like the second idea much better.

•A couple things: I would absolutely love for AU to get a photography club! Another thing, I don't like you as much as I thought I did, but in all honesty I really do miss hooking up with you, even though you weren't the best in bed. I know I could do better, I guess it's just the fact that you were always dtf and so was I. I think you're hooking up with someone else now though. oh well.

•"I know this isn't a very rapper thing to say, but I haven't bought a new car or piece of jewelry in two years." - Kanye West

•@"Why does the library close so early on Friday?" It closes at 9pm. That's not that early. ALSO: The movies in the library aren't only for entertainment purposes and even if they are, great. I don't live near tenleytown and that public library out of the way.

•To the guy who was a previous owner of the used magnum condom that now resides in the Anderson terrace boy's bathroom trash can: You go Glen Coco!

•You're like my personal brand of heroin. I did you once and got hooked immediately. Months later you still drive me crazy. I hate you, and I want you, and I hate that I want you. I'm not sure to be happy or sad that you're graduating.

•@AU rankings ranter: that is just one list. AU is frequently rated higher and lower than that, and it all depends on the criteria for which those who made the rankings list made it. Don't fret, be proud of our school (or ashamed, just don't go by one list though)

•A repo man spends his life getting into tense situations.

•@Juice box drinker. I stare because I'm jealous of your juice box.

•@10 week ban. The problem with banning abortion after 20 weeks is that it interferes with what are extremely difficult medical decisions that should be between a woman and her doctor. Google “The real impact of a 20 week abortion ban” and watch the video on the first link. No one casually gets an abortion after being pregnant for 5 months. Less than 2% of all abortions occur after 21 weeks. It should not be the role of our government to interfere with deeply private and frequently painful personal decisions.

•If you want abortions to be performed as early as possible during a pregnancy, the goal should be expanding access, so women are able to get one as quickly as they can.

•naked skyped over eagle secure.

•I had no idea there was a rape culture. I thought rapists just stayed in the dark because they're just generally hated by society. If they brag about it, that's just terrible.

•@So AU is ranked 82 for national universities. Are you serious? Your focus on rankings is what gives Neil Kerwin the license to attempt to kill any and all social life on campus in the name of "academic reputation". Isn't the quality of the students that really matters rather than what some subjective ranking organization says? Wouldn't you rather have a fun time at a smart school with good people than go to a top ranked university? I know I would.

•Why is so hard to be a women? You get preferential hiring treatment in science and finance, athletic scholarships for sports no one watches, the option to not pay for anything on dates, the option (not obligation) to stay at home, the choice of when to have sex, the ability to leverage gender specific medical circumstances for time off in the work place, and the ability to have multiple orgasms. Cry me a river.

•What'll it take for you to surrender? I gave you a taste. Oh how you've grown. This great trial, this self denial It's a trial to leave you clean cause I like it dark and low, You know.

•So I decided; I'm withdrawing from AU effective immediately and going home. Or to a psych ward. My choice.

•When will the boys of this world stop being afraid of taking chances and making moves? (Or how I can I find a boy like this?) I'm pretty good at being forward about my feelings, but relationships take two.

•Just wanted to say thanks to the person who transferred for responding!

•If life begins at conception, then I should have nine months added to my age. I'm moving to Arizona and demanding that they allow me to drink legally, since under their logic I'm 21 already.

•Why aren't these funny?

•To everyone who walked, hugged, and walk-hugged with me at Relay: you don't know what that meant and will always mean to me.

•@gender pay gaps simply can't exist please mansplain this further

•Dear white girl ranting about racism, you will never understand, you sound ridiculous, please shut up.

•Who came up with this YOLO nonsense? I know what it means, and I find it ironic when I hear christians say it. Also it will never fail to remind me of the trololo song. That's probably why I find it so silly...

•I piss in the residence halls bathroom sinks.

•My boyfriend is a homophobe. I love him so much and it's not really that bad, just a comment every once and a while. I know it's just because it was how he was raised, but I've spent my whole life trying to combat anti-gay sentiments and it just hurts me a little to hear them come from someone I love.

•Safe Connect... We meet again.

•Look, I know that you want to be very nice and welcoming, but I just met you and it's a wee bit much for my liking.

•I never wash my cup. I just swish around some of the new drink to loosen up the residue of the old one. I guess that's kind of like washing.

•If the class I really want to take gets canceled because not enough people enroll, I will not be a happy camper. My schedule for next semester is already bad enough...

•In the White House, there are 13,092 knives, forks and spoons. Can they bring some to TDR?

•the world just doesnt understand how phenomenally Wooten slaps the Truth

•ive been working from 7 to 11 every night and you know i'm about to lose my mind,

•I was really disappointed by the premiere of "Girls". I thought it would be deep and real and thought provoking with funny quips here and there. But it was like it tried to put deep and funny together in a blender and came out with awkward situations were the viewer wasn't sure if the situation was supposed to be a joke or not.

•@"I’m pro choice, but that choice has a limit" What about women who normally have irregular periods or take a birth control pill like the one where you only get your period every three months? BC is not 100% effective. Also what if women discover something medical later on that would lead to a need or preference for abortion? They could find out that the fetus has profound developmental disability that could not be diagnosed until later in the pregnancy, or the pregnant women may be diagnosed with a medical condition herself.

•"You must be the change you wish to see in the world" -Rick Santorum

•Why Eaglesecure, why?

•Please stop making those faces when I don't sign your petition, come to your event or take your flyer.. I'm sorry, but I just can't be an advocate for every single social justice issue

•@I think strong women are beautiful: please share your wisdom with others. also, my heart skipped a beat when I read that

•Whatever way our stories end I know you have rewritten mine by being my friend.

•@grandfather ranter: My (paternal) grandmother died on Halloween too. I also feel bad for my father, since mother's day is also coming up and both of his parents are now deceased. :/

•There is a special circle in hell for people who logout of the quickprint computers at the library during rush hour.

Rant here!
