VELVET UNDERGROUND Junction is the best bet for shoppers hunting for vintage bargains.

Secondhand Style: Junction

When I went down a small flight of steps and entered the vintage and resale store Junction, I knew I was in a good place.

The store is tiny, with only one main room and two miniscule dressing rooms. Despite the size, there were plenty of intriguing clothes and accessories.

I was pleasantly surprised to find real vintage items, not something from 1990. (Yes, I’ve found “vintage” clothing from the ’90s in other stores. You can’t possibly tell me that counts, at least not yet.) I found a beautiful pastel patterned blouse from the early ’60s, as well as structured dresses and bright sweaters from the 1980s, some of which are coming back into style.

I also found practically new Rock & Republic jeans with an interesting stitch pattern, a pastel blouse, a super soft red Gap scoop neck tee and an “electric raspberry” (as described by the sales clerk, Victor) chunky sweater. In the end, I purchased the sweater — who wouldn’t want something that color?

There were two small BOGO bins in the store, one full of jeans and skirts and the other with shirts and scarves. Most of the items in the bins were only $5, so you could get two cute pieces for so cheap.

I just happened to be at the store while the winter “Cash In” sale was going on, during which I would get 30 percent off of my purchase if I paid in cash.

I love feeling as if I am important to the staff when I’m in a store, and I definitely felt this way at Junction. There were only two workers in the store, speaking about a fashion shoot and how to style the models. When I tried on the electric raspberry sweater, they stopped what they were doing and praised the color against my skin tone. I was also given personal attention when Victor helped me figure out what type of accessories I could wear with the sweater.

I certainly recommend the store to anyone who is looking for something unique yet beautifully made, as well as to anyone who appreciates a dedicated, intelligent staff.
