METRO: U Street/African-American Civil War Memorial/Cardozo (green and yellow lines) INFO: You may have heard Mirah on FOX's hit "So You Think You Can Dance," but now you can hear indie-pop's favorite prolific chanteuse at The Black Cat. Friday, Oct. 24 Mexico's Day and Night of the Dead 7:30 p.m. WHERE: National Museum of the American Indian, Fourth Street and Independence Avenue S.W. METRO: Smithsonian (blue and orange lines) INFO: Join pan-Latin sensation Sol y Canto for this premature celebration of Mexico's Day of the Dead, which features a projection of joyous dancing skeletons. COST: $25

Hometown Heroes 10 p.m. WHERE: Trinidad and Tobago Association of Washington, D.C., 5123 Georgia Ave. N.W. METRO: Check wmata.com for bus routes INFO: Hipsters know and love DJ Stereofaith, who'll be spinning this epic dance party, but everyone should give international spin-doctor DJ Spen a listen, known for his mix-ups of Diana Ross, among others. COST: $10

Saturday, Oct. 25 "Strangers on a Train" 7 p.m. WHERE: AFI Silver Theatre and Cultural Center, 8633 Colesville Rd., Silver Spring METRO: Silver Spring (red line) INFO: Enjoy this D.C.-centered Hitchcock classic and then chat with the film's star, Farley Granger, who will be on hand to discuss the film. COST: $12

Washington International Horse Show 7 a.m.-5 p.m., 7-10:30 p.m. WHERE: Verizon Center, 601 F St. N.W. METRO: Gallery Place-Chinatown (red, green and yellow lines) INFO: A horse is a horse of course, and horses can do some pretty impressive things. Check out Mr. Ed's pals at this annual equestrian extravaganza. COST: $20-$70

Sunday, Oct. 26 Vampires on Film 1 p.m. WHERE: S. Dillon Ripley Center, 1100 Jefferson Dr. S.W. METRO: Smithsonian (blue and orange lines) INFO: Historian Max Alvarez "vants" to suck your blood. Not really, but he's going to talk about the guys and gals on the silver screen who do. COST: $25, $15 for students

"Take Me Away" 3 p.m. WHERE: Mead Theatre Lab, 916 G St. N.W. METRO: Gallery Place-Chinatown (red, green and yellow lines) INFO: Take in this dark comedy about three Irish brothers, their (possibly) ill mother and Ireland at its last performance at the Mead Theatre Lab. COST: $20

Monday, Oct. 27 True Womanhood 9 p.m. WHERE: The Black Cat, 1811 14th St. N.W. METRO: U Street/African-American Civil War Memorial/Cardozo (green and yellow lines) INFO: Sonic Youth's bastard child, True Womanhood, filled the basement of the Kay Spiritual Life Center with their melodic din about a month ago. Get your tail to The Black Cat for this overdue encore performance. COST: $8

Carnegie: Artist of Mystery 6 p.m. and 7:30 p.m. WHERE: National Theatre, 1321 Pennsylvania Ave. N.W. METRO: Metro Center (red, blue and orange lines) INFO: Master escape artist Carnegie will perform moderately death-defying feats. If you're lucky, he'll pull you from the audience and you'll get to help with the restraints! COST: Free

Tuesday, Oct. 28 "Anatomy of a Murder" 8:30 p.m. WHERE: American City Diner, 5532 Connecticut Ave. N.W. METRO: Check wmata.com for bus routes INFO: Jimmy Stewart plays a small town lawyer defending a murder suspect in this thriller. Sit back and enjoy some classic diner food while Stewart digs deeper. COST: Free

High Heel Race 9 p.m. WHERE: 17th Street N.W. between Church and R streets METRO: Dupont Circle (red line) INFO: "Drag race" doesn't even begin to describe it. Dupont's Halloween tradition plays host to the District's best-dressed drag queens. COST: Free
