IN SEARCH OF BOOTY: Self-gratification natural, healthy sexual exploration

To brighten up your week, we thought we'd discuss having sex with the most important person in your life - you. That's right, we mean masturbation. When it comes to the arena of earthly delights, very few things are less talked about than self-loving.

Masturbation is a fascinating and important topic, despite what some of you may have learned in Catholic school. We're going to start by contradicting your high school health teacher. Masturbation won't make you go blind or grow hair on your palms. Another point we'd like to get off our collective chests is that masturbation is something that everyone can engage in and is hardly the domain of male society alone. Please don't feel this is only directed to male readers - when thought about on a purely biological level, masturbation should be far more in the realm of females than males, as they have the potential for a nearly limitless number of "goes" a day.

Sadly, it seems that many people do not seem to realize their own potential for self-gratification and find it a dirty, dishonorable thing meant for perverts. This is unfortunate because we think masturbation is one of the least shameful sexual activities one can partake in. When you engage in masturbation, there is no one to criticize your performance or your body, nobody can get pregnant and there is pretty much zero-percent chance you'll contract an STI.

Jack is constantly amazed by how many of his female friends are in sexual relationships but have never explored their own bodies. Such women seem to have very one-sided sexual relationships where the entire objective of a sexual encounter is his pleasure, while she receives little of the loving she so richly deserves. Bottom line is, if you don't know how you like to be touched, caressed, stroked and teased, how the hell is your partner ever going to know how to satisfy you?

Also, why is it that being caught masturbating is far more shameful than having sex with someone? For males, masturbation is at the very least a medical necessity. A growing number of studies find that men who achieve ejaculation regularly (five times a week) can reduce their risk of getting prostate cancer by up to 40 percent, as reported in the health section of BBC News. The report said the preventative effect is greatest for men in their 20s, so you've got little time to lose, fellas.

If the above reasons aren't enough to grab your attention, sex toys designed to get you tickling should. A quick jaunt down to your favorite sex store (the Pleasure Place in Dupont Circle is a good local option) can show you just how many options there are for solo loving (or for use with a partner). Unfortunately, guys, the bulk of self-sex aids are manufactured for women. That isn't to say they don't make things for men, but nature has blessed us with all the sex toy we need in foreskin, which, combined with a little lube, can be more toy than most can handle.

So, whatever your preferences or experiences may be, don't forget about the safest and least complicated way to have sex and schedule some alone time for the most important person in your life: you.
