Crucial fall fashion tips for men who want to be noticed

Feeling neglected, men? We've noticed that, although we have shared as much of our fashion knowledge as 600 words will allow, we have often not included enough for our fashion-loving males.

We'll be honest - a well-dressed man is a lot more attractive than some guy in his basketball shorts. Clothes get you noticed - by potential employers, professors and even your parents. It sounds shallow, but first impressions are important and are often derived from your appearance. We're telling you the male fashion faux pas, what you need to have and what's guaranteed to turn heads. Guys, this one's for you.

First, there are numerous fashion offenses that most men repeat over and over. Mesh shorts are one of them; these are for the gym. Are they for the clubs? No. What if the stripes on the side match your shirt? Nope, still not for going out.

Another common fashion faux pas is clashing color combinations. Black and navy blue together never works, your polo pony should always match the shirt you wear underneath (unless that shirt is black or white) and your shoes should always match your belt.

Finally, regarding team and university T-shirts - guys, it's great that you support your school and team, but there are a few reasons why wearing those shirts everywhere is a bad call. First of all, there are bound to be countless other AU students wearing the same thing, and why would you want to blend in? The T-shirts are usually pretty basic and sometimes can come off as sloppy.

Now that we've ruled out what is not recommended as everyday attire, let us point out a few things that are. Every man needs to own a good pair of khakis, and if you're a jean person, a nice pair of dark jeans. Khakis go with almost anything and are the male equivalent to a girl wearing heels instead of flats. They are an easy way to make your outfit look much more polished. Dark jeans are preferable to light jeans because they work day and night and are easy to match with everything. Personally, we recommend True Religion's "Bobby" jean with body rinse as an ideal dark jean.

Next, invest in some button-down shirts. These shirts have multiple uses. You can wear them to a job interview, class and even the clubs. Solid colors always work, but stripes are more interesting. And, as trends show, every man should invest in a pink button-down shirt. Women love pink, and seeing their boyfriends in it will make them even.

Lastly, a tie makes the outfit perfect. Most men think ties are only for job interviews and church, but that is not true. A tie shows that you are not afraid to dress up. If you want to score some real points, throw a V-neck sweater on top.

We hope that our male readers will consider our advice. We are not saying you have to throw away those mesh shorts and AU T-shirts - we wouldn't want you to lose your school spirit, and girls have their sloppy days, too - but every once in a while, put some effort into it. Trust us, the effort will pay off.

Stay Stylish, Lara and Virginia
