Law firms turn YouTube into 'RecruitTube'

As major companies adjust to the digital age, law firms in particular have discovered one major consistency among the college students they are trying to recruit as summer interns - they watch YouTube, the major online video Web site that allows anyone to post anything from funny moments caught on camera to elaborate music video productions ("Let's Get Some Shoes," anyone?).

Now, firms are trying to create recruiting videos that appeal to young people in an attempt to appear hip and in tune with the digital age. Summer is the biggest hiring time for new law interns, and firms are trying to score the most with this new campaign.

"The videos are still kind of in the early days," Vault Reports Editor Brian Dalton told The New York Times. "A lot of them come off seeming like hostage videos."

Nevertheless, some firms have actually created chains of recruitment videos akin to television marketing commercials. This may start a new trend - soon, we could be seeing military recruitment videos on YouTube.

Halo 3 sets new sales records

The highly anticipated "Halo 3" hit like a bombshell when it was released at midnight in retail stores Tuesday.

According to Microsoft, first-day sales of "Halo 3" reached $170 million in the United States, making it the highest-grossing entertainment product within 24 hours of release ever. The performance beat the previous record-setter, "Halo 2," which earned $125 million within 24 hours of launch time. More than 1.7 million copies of "Halo 3" were pre-ordered in the United States, also making it the fastest pre-selling game in U.S. history.

After all of the merchandising, hype and sales, "Halo 3" has topped off arguably one of the most lucrative franchises of all time. Halo fans may be able to play as the Master Chief again in the future, as rumors of future installments of "Halo" run rampant on the Internet.

Analysts suggest no clear winner on console wars

While Microsoft is cheering in the street over the success of "Halo 3," DFC Intelligence has released a preliminary forecast on the console wars, suggesting that there will be no clear winner between the Nintendo Wii or the Sony PlayStation 3 but that the Xbox 360 will come in a distant third.

"Under DFC's best-case scenario for the Xbox 360, the system is in a virtual tie with both the Wii and the PlayStation 3," the analysts wrote. "However, unless the Xbox 360 can kick it into gear in the fourth quarter and through 2008, the system will probably finish in a fairly distant third."

Currently, the Wii continues to outpace sales of PlayStation 3 and the Xbox 360 despite the release of "Halo 3," according to Gamespot. However, the Xbox 360 is far ahead in sales of the PlayStation 3. Sony is relying on a few "trump cards," namely "Final Fantasy XII" and "Metal Gear Solid 4," to compensate for its significant loss in its gaming department. Nintendo is anticipating a few of its own releases, including "Super Mario Galaxy" and "Super Smash Bros. Brawl"
