Read 'Study Away' before going abroad, narrow city search

From semesters abroad to full-degree programs, use "Study Away: The Unauthorized Guide to College Abroad" to plan the ultimate international student experience. Written by two recent college graduates who have collectively studied in Scotland, England, France, Russia and the West Indies, "Study Away" gives a first-hand account of what to expect in every aspect of studying abroad.

However, the book is geared mostly for those interested in spending their entire undergraduate education abroad. It includes the whole senior-in-high-school process of what to do if planning to attend a foreign college. This just means a little weeding out of information for anyone just looking to study somewhere for a semester.

In "Study Away" there are 68 detailed profiles of top schools around the world that teach in English. The profiles feature campus descriptions and information about academic programs, tuition rates and financial aid information, housing options, extracurricular activities and support services. It also includes school contact information, directions on how to apply, and advice on staying healthy and staying safe. "Study Away" also gives the inside scoop from students on the campuses, tuition-saving strategies and application advice.

The authors of "Study Away" went through all the toil of finding the info on the best colleges and universities outside the United States. This way if you know you would like to study abroad but are not completely sure on all the particulars, just looking through this book can give you the low-down. Organized alphabetically by country and region, it is very easy to find the right college in the right place using this guide. Set up like a college guide for schools in the Unites States, "Study Away" gives the reader an in-depth impression of each school. It points out the schools' strong points, focuses and reputation.

"Study Away" includes student interviews that give a good idea on exactly what it is like to go to school there. It is also unbiased, so there are negative comments in the book as well for the reader to really get to know all sides of the school.

The "real experience" sections in the book provides helpful predictions of how a student would adjust or react to the new setting, regardless of whether he or she is there for a semester, a year, or four years.

In this book students will find schools and programs they might never have considered, but some are really eye-catching. "Study Away" covers colleges and programs anywhere from the University of Costa Rica to the University of Malta to Oxford University.

Even those who have a pretty good idea of where they would like to study abroad, this book can help narrow down the search, produce some new ideas or get students started on international adventures. "Study Away" can guide you to the school that has the strongest focus for your intended major, the school with the best beaches, schools most unlike American schools or just the one that fits your taste.
