The Weekend Scene: Oct. 24-26

With midterms winding down, it’s time to get out and enjoy D.C. Here’s one event you can attend for each day of this weekend.

Friday

“Women on the Verge of a Nervous Breakdown”

This one is pretty easy to get to because it is hosted right in Tenleytown in the Harold and Sylvia Greenberg Theatre. For $10 (for students; $15 for everyone else), you can support an incredible cast of actresses performing in a musical adaptation of director Pedro Almodovar’s film. The musical is about the relationships between men and women when they are caught between rejection, need and loss. Support your AU pals and artists.

Read Tam Sackman’s review for The Eagle.

When: Friday and Saturday, Oct. 24 and 25, 8 p.m.
Where: Harold and Sylvia Greenberg Theatre, 4200 Wisconsin Ave., NW
Metro: AU Shuttle to Tenley campus, south on Wisconsin Ave.

Underground Comedy at The Big Hunt

Laugh with and at comedians from Underground Comedy when they come to The Big Hunt in Dupont Circle. You can even give a go at performing your material by emailing the coordinators. Halloween might be a scary time, but nothing is scarier than performing bits in front of a bunch of strangers.

When: Friday, Oct. 24, 7:30-10 p.m.
Where: The Big Hunt, 1345 Connecticut Ave NW
Metro Stop: Red Line to Dupont Circle Stop

Saturday

Gay/Bash Halloween Freak Show Feat. Klitorika Browne

Voted Baltimore’s best drag queen, Klitorika Browne will take the Black Cat’s Backstage to perform in the spirit of spookiness and Halloween. She’ll be joined by D.C.‘s best drag queen Heidi Glum. Both will perform with DJs Joshua and Dean Sullivan with electronic beats and ghoulish sounds.

When: Saturday, Oct. 25, 10:30 p.m. to 2:30 a.m.
Where: Black Cat, 1811 14th St. NW
Metro Stop: Red Line to Chinatown transfer to Yellow or Green Line at U Street.

Sunday

Fashion Yards at The Yards Park

Get to know your new favorite boutique or catch up with your old tried-and-trues at The Yards’ fashion pop-up market. Over 20 vendors and pop-up boutiques are participating in this free event that will have complimentary champagne from Gilt City D.C. It’s a great way to support local fashion shops and probably get a nice discount on items.

When: Sunday, Oct. 26, 1-5 p.m.
Where: The Yards, 300 Tingey St. SE
Metro Stop: Red Line transfer at Metro Center, Blue Line to Navy Yard

Section 202 host Gabrielle and friends go over some sports that aren’t in the sports media spotlight often, and review some sports based on their difficulty to play.
