Dems: "get over" reaction to Alito

·

Robert Idlett's column, "Stop Alito on Filibuster," on November 21st reminded me of one of my favorite songs by the Eagles: Get Over It. One of the song's lines offers advice to liberals who oppose the appointment of qualified judges to the Supreme Court: "Get over it.

Staff editorial: Punishing students for AU fire alarms

AU's south side is notorious for its fire alarms, the most recent one was early Monday morning around 3 a.m. Students are frustrated that their sleep is interrupted, and rightfully so, but the administration is more upset that students are choosing not to exit Anderson, Letts, and Centennial, which seems all together very backward.

Stop Alito on filibuster

ÿ Harriet Miers was a poor pick for the Supreme Court.ÿ She could not think for herself, and would have relied on the Bush White House to tell her how to rule on important issues.ÿ Although she seemed like a sure bet to be a conservative puppet, the right wing killed her nomination because they couldn't make sure that she'd be as fawning and uncritical as they wanted her to be.

Letters to the editor

Dear Editor, Jonathan McPike, in his recent editorial "McCain: O, What a Pain" stated that he believes the United States should be allowed to torture terrorists and suspected terrorists to force them to divulge information. "If the rest of the world objects to our torturing a terrorist to save even one American life, then it will not cost me one wink of sleep," he wrote.

Disney approach: exile

Who's the leader of the club that's made for you and me?ÿ Well it's not M-I-C-K-E-Y M-O-U-S-E.ÿ It's the Leslie Bains and her group of four. In the wake ofÿthe recent Town Hall meeting of current Trustee members on campus the groupÿof recently resigned members of the American Board of Trustees have penned a wonderful point-by-point body blow on the Ad-Hoc group of thirteen whoÿsupported Uncle Ben.

McCain: O, what a pain

It is no secret that Sen. John McCain, R-Arizona, and President George W. Bush do not quite get along. McCain has always cherished his reputation as a maverick, and he certainly has not minded wearing that mantle since President Bush slung a little mud his way in South Carolina before going on to win the nomination and the presidency in 2000.

The AU campus has been deeply shaken by news of the death of Chris Salazar who, throughout his four years here, was arguably more recognizable a figure on campus than most student leaders, professors or administrators.
