Wrestling with the athletic intensity that helped him earn the nickname “Diablo” as a young athlete, AU senior captain John Boyle captured a 10-2 major decision against Navy’s Drew Daniels to give AU an 11-6 lead heading into intermission on Jan 16. The Eagles, however, failed to hang on, and after giving up falls in the 184-pound match and the 197-pound match, AU dropped to the Midshipmen 21-17.

With 4:58 left to play in the fourth quarter at Bender Arena, the AU women’s basketball team closed the lead of the Army Black Knights to two points. Over the final minutes of the game, the Eagles struggled offensively while Army closed the game on a 12-4 run to hand AU its fourth Patriot League loss Saturday afternoon.

A combination of nostalgia and frustration filled Reeves Aquatic Center Friday night as the AU swim team honored six departing seniors in the season’s final home meet but ultimately struggled to make a strong showing against visiting Georgetown. Both the women’s and men’s teams were dominated by the Hoyas, with the men losing 158-71 while the women were defeated 133-105.
“Just more of the same.”

The Eagles, plagued by unproductive offense and inexperienced defense, suffered their 14th loss of the season last night at the hands of Boston University. After a close-scoring first half, AU ultimately ran dry in the second half, losing 61-50 to its Patriot League foe.

Twenty-three flags line the walls of Frailey Pool, each one symbolizing a country that has been represented by a student-athlete on the AU swim team. When Caylee Watson joined the team two years ago, swimming head coach Mark Davin added a new flag to represent her home -- the U.S. Virgin Islands. Just last month, Watson, now a junior in the School of Public Affairs, earned an honor much bigger than a flag: a spot on the U.S. Virgin Islands Olympic team.
