The University named Marsha Harper as the next head coach for women’s soccer on Dec. 29. Harper is the first African American head coach of American’s women’s soccer program, and the first African American head coach of any AU team since 2004.

It took three quarters, but the women’s basketball team got out of their rut for a 56-48 comeback win over the High Point Panthers on Nov. 18. It took an electric second-half performance from emerging star Jade Edwards for AU (2-1) to overcome a 6-point, fourth-quarter deficit.

It’s easy for young teams to get stuck in cold streaks, but as D.C. has started to cool down, the Eagles were only interested in heating up. Sophomore guards Jade Edwards and Emily Fisher both notched career highs on Thursday night, carrying the team to a 76-54 victory over the Villanova Wildcats in the home opener.

In its first home game of the season, the AU men’s basketball team came out of the locker room looking invincible. The team sprinted out to a 16-point lead early in the first half, but wasn’t able to maintain it. The Eagles suffered its second straight loss, this one to the William & Mary Tribe, 79-70 on Friday night in Bender Arena.

AU’s men’s soccer team beat Army West Point 2-0 on Saturday during their last home game of the season. This was the first home win for the Eagles this season, making it the first home win for first-year coach Zach Samol. Goals from junior Nick Dimitrijevic and senior Fabio Massaro, as well as a strong team effort, brought forth this victory.

The AU wrestling team is slowly gaining its footing as the season begins to take shape. The Eagles traveled to the Citadel this weekend for a seven-team round-robin tournament that included North Carolina State, Stanford, Duke, Old Dominion and others. Five podium finishes highlighted AU's second place overall finish.

Two years ago, Jamir Harris was playing college basketball on the biggest stage imaginable. During the frigid Minneapolis winter, the North Jersey product would take the floor 28 times for the Minnesota Golden Gophers of the Big Ten. Every game, he would play in front of over 10,000 fans, and he would go up against names like Carsen Edwards, Kevin Huerter, Jaren Jackson Jr. and Duncan Robinson, all of whom are now NBA players.
