Good floor spacing is essential for most college basketball teams, especially those with skilled three-point shooters. The American University men’s basketball team is no different, and the Eagles have achieved productive floor spacing and efficient thr3ee-point shooting from 6’7” freshman forward Matt Mayock.
The American University men’s basketball team (11-9) defeated the Holy Cross Crusaders (5-15) in Bender Arena on Jan. 24 by a score of 84-65. The game saw American pull away in the second half on the back of a breakout game from freshman forward Matt Mayock, who put up 13 points in the second half alone.
In their second matchup of the season, the American University women’s basketball team (7-11) beat Lehigh University (11-7) 59-55 on Jan. 20.

The American University wrestling team (4-3) defeated the Davidson Wildcats (0-3) by an overall score of 31-7. The Eagles were all in as they won eight of the 10 bouts in their most dominant win of the season so far. The win secured American’s first home winning streak since January 2020.
The American University men’s basketball team (4-5) lost to the St. Francis University Red Flash (4-5) in Bender Arena on Dec. 2 by a score of 75-73. This loss came after American held an 11-point lead at halftime.

The portal is teeming with eligible players seeking a new home after leaving their previous programs. This was the case for AU seniors Marisa Lee and Anna LeMaster, who joined the team before the 2022-23 season as juniors. Lee transferred from the University of Hartford, and LeMaster transferred from the University of Dayton.
