The American University volleyball team (12-2, 2-0) continued a successful season throughout the second half of September. Through the stretch, they posted a win against the Howard University Bison to close their non-conference home slate, won two of three in a tournament weekend at Campbell and took their first two Patriot League contests without dropping a set at Loyola Maryland and Navy.
The American University field hockey team (3-5) lost a close, hard-fought battle to the University of Delaware Blue Hens (4-3) 1-0 on Sept. 22. The Jacobs Complex bleachers were packed with 381 fans in attendance, with both American supporters and Delaware fans who made the cross-state journey down to D.C.

Julia Kato, women’s soccer goalkeeper for American University, grew up playing for one of the best club soccer teams in Florida: Jacksonville FC. The standard of soccer was so high that some of her teammates drove three hours just to practice with the team.
Malak Hassouna’s love for swimming started young — she recalls that the first steps she took as a toddler were on a beach and she started swim classes at two years old. Growing up, Hassouna played an array of sports. She tried basketball, taekwondo, ballet, cheer and tennis, but at around ten she was encouraged by her parents to settle on one sport, and she chose to swim. Hassouna was a champion from the beginning, winning her first heat at her very first competition in California at age nine. Soon after, she returned home to Egypt where she originally learned to swim.

American University senior forward Matt Rogers will return to the school for a fifth year of college basketball during the 2024-2025 season, a decision announced by AU’s men’s basketball team on March 29.
The American University men’s club volleyball team won a tournament in Bender Arena on March 24, featuring schools from in and around the Washington, D.C. area. Two teams from American — A and B — played against two teams from George Mason and teams from Georgetown, George Washington and Mary Washington.
