Eve Ensler could not have realized the effect of her work when she debuted the "Vagina Monologues" in New York in the mid-90s. Not only does this controversial yet popular play persistent in its message, but it has spawned a worldwide movement known as V-Day, which raises awareness about violence against women and girls. The success of the "Vagina Monologues" has brought it to televisions and stages worldwide. And for the sixth consecutive year, AU students staged their own production of the "Vagina Monologues" on campus, in the McDowell Formal Lounge this past Thursday, Friday and Saturday.

Someone forgot to give the AU freshmen on the women's basketball team the memo: Tuesday night was Senior Night. The frosh mob of Tish Curry, Talicia Jackson, Sahar Nusseibeh, Nicole Ryan and Pam Stanfield turned Tuesday's celebration of the veterans into a coming-out party for the first-year Eagles in an 89-81 overtime victory over Patriot League-rival Navy.

Neil Young is kind of unreliable. His discography is littered with failures and confusing experiments, including an industrial album, 1983's "Trans." Young's music career, now in its fifth decade, has seen itself a lonely singer-songwriter, a rowdy fellow with an electric guitar and even a brief stint in rockabilly. The film "Neil Young: Heart of Gold" admirably captures the artist in his current mood - an aging folk-rocker with some stories to tell.

Folks, the Olympics are underway (I know, I know, you're part of the entire earth's population that isn't watching) and already these games are more about who's gone (Apolo Anton Ohno, Michelle Kwan and Bode Miller) rather than who's there (a flying tomato, another Sarah Hughes and a hot ice dancer).

In 1920, two artists who held a large international exhibition in Berlin were arrested by the German government and brought up on charges of defamation of the Army. George Grosz and Rudolph Schlicter argued that their inflammatory works were merely practical jokes. As a veteran of World War I, Grosz argued that he meant to disrespect to the military or the military's supporting institutions. The two artists were lying.

On a Saturday so foggy the top of the Washington Monument was barely visible even to those standing on the National Mall, World Can't Wait, an organization seeking to create a political situation that would drive President Bush from office, gathered protesters near the monument and marched to the White House to denounce the Bush administration and call on the president to step down.

A bad cold kept AU men's basketball coach Jeff Jones from the sideline for the AU men's basketball team's Nov. 9 exhibition game against Catholic, so he had to watch the game tape at home in bed. But at one point, he saw something that may have told him the cold medicine was messing with his mind.

Some people will say Swedish director Mikael H?fstr?m's new film "Derailed" is lowbrow. Screw them. Some people will say "Derailed" is predictable. Screw them, too. "Derailed" is a fun thriller that will keep movie buffs on the edge of their seats.
