AU students cheered the Eagles during a watch party held in the Tavern for the AU vs. Wisconsin game.
“Being here [in the Tavern] with all the fans… it’s really exciting,” said School of International Service freshman Joe Flannery.
“The money is there, take care and do the job we said that we were going to do,” Ward 5 Councilmember Vincent Orange said about D.C. government funds.
“Decrim is just the first step,” Ward 6 Councilmember Tommy Wells said. “It’s a smart thing to do, it’s a matter of social justice, and that’s what we need to do.”
Community activist Carlos Allen participated in the D.C. Democratic mayoral debate held at AU on Feb. 12.
“I believe decriminalizing marijuana like we did is a step toward legalizing it,” Ward 2 Councilmember Jack Evans said.
“The corruption, the shadow campaign and all these things, it’s really hard to focus on the issue of statehood,” Busboys and Poets owner Andy Shallal said.
“If you are out there being the activist you always have been, I want to make sure you have a path to go help our young people, go help our non-profits, go help our elderly,” Rita Lewis said.
