Women’s soccer falls short in 1-0 game against Loyola

American University women’s soccer (0-4) fell to Loyola (3-1) in a 1-0 shutout on Saturday afternoon from Reeves Field. Though AU hasn’t been able to find its way into the win column or score a goal this season, the team has shown week-to-week improvement in its passing completion, strength in the backline and movement as a unit on both sides of the ball.

For student-athletes, managing the physical toll of college athletics in a normal season is a given, as is maintaining the composure of one’s mental health. But when the added pressures include competing during a pandemic, risking contraction of COVID-19, attending online classes and the general unknown of the situation at hand, that’s when the complexities of an athletic year as unprecedented as this one takes center stage. 


AU Swim & Dive freshmen are making waves this season

Now that AU Swim & Dive is back in action, there are plenty of new faces walking the deck of Frailey Pool. After AU added its largest recruiting class in recent memory, the class of 2024 is helping flip the script for the men’s and women’s programs as they look to rebuild and add depth as strong competitors in the Patriot League. 


Women’s soccer left scoreless in return to Reeves

American University women’s soccer (0-2) took to Reeves Field to host Army West Point (3-0) in its home-opener on Saturday afternoon. Though the sun was bright and the team was pumped to play on its own field for the first time in 514 days, the Eagles didn't capitalize on the home-field advantage in this 5-0 loss. Army came into the year ranked second in the Patriot League preseason poll and has yet to allow a goal this season. 



AU women’s soccer changes mentality with new coaching staff and upcoming season

When American University women’s soccer takes the field this Saturday, it will be the start of a new chapter for the program. First-year head coach Marsha Harper and first-year assistant coach Katie Greenberg will begin their Eagle careers and start the 2021 season — an event that has been a long time coming.



Women’s basketball beats Loyola Maryland and completes the weekend sweep

In its first home game in nearly a year, American University women’s basketball (3-3) defeated Loyola (0-4) 67-58 Sunday afternoon to capture the second win of a weekend sweep. Though there weren’t any fans in Bender Area because of the pandemic, the Eagles felt comfort in finally returning to their home court.
