Fall 2016 Makeup Trends from New York Fashion Week

Fall 2016 Makeup Trends from New York Fashion Week
BRIGHT NOW - Invest in a cute mini clutch purse in any colorful shade of your choice in order to stand out from the crowd and stay in style this season. Clutch purses are convenient for their small size and also fashionable for their subtlety.

New York Fashion Week is when the most fabulous and elite people in fashion come together to celebrate the fashion and makeup industry. Icons, such as Christian Dior, Valentino and Marc Jacobs inspire many people to mimic the styles their models wear. For those not fortunate enough to be there, here’s a list of this season’s newest makeup trends to follow, straight from the runway:

Go dark or go home

Christian Dior and Marc Jacobs models on the runways were spotting very, very dark lips. Most of the models were wearing dark greys and black, but you don’t necessarily have to go as dark. Whether it was black or plum, glossy or matte, dark lips were the center of NYFW.

For a simpler look, dark browns and maroons are a good substitute when you don’t want to go as dark. Kat Von D supplies us with the best dark lips possible, with some favorites being Damned ($20), for a dark maroon, and Witches ($20), for those of us brave enough to rock a black lip.

Red lips are a classic

DKNY and Jason Wu models wore a “modern, working millennial” look: red lips! Red lips are a classic look that goes well with any outfit. It also compliments every skin color and makeup look.

Whether it’s for going to work or for that little, black dress you own, red lips are a must-have. Mac classics, such as Ruby Woo ($17) and Russian Red ($17) are some favorite cherry reds.

Glitter is actually for grownups

A fall fashion trend that got us excited this season was glittered eyes. Burberry and DelPozo models were either wearing glitter eyeshadow on their lids, glitter eyeliner around their eyes, or even a glitter highlighter under their brows. Not only does this bring us back to our childhood makeup days, but glitter can give any makeup look some pizazz.

Anastasia Beverly Hills has great glitter shadows, such as Chocolate Crumble ($12) and Truffle Glitter ($12). Colourpop has a large variety of metallic and glittery shadows. Two favorites are Mittens ($5) and Friskie ($5).

Creative eyeliner

Oscar De La Renta and Altuzarra models rocked a very different trend on the runway. Models had creative eyeliner looks all around their lids, creating graphic and comic designs. Makeup artists tried a new take on a classic cat eye look, but drawn upward over the lid and smudged to create a smokey and grunge effect.

Eyeliners for a smudge effect are the Showtime Kajal ($2.99) from New York Color and Amazonian Clay Waterproof Liner from Tarte ($22).

Smokey Eye

Just like dark lips, dark eyes are a fall favorite. This year’s makeup look is definitely a more modern gothic look, compared to spring season’s feminine and natural look. Saint Laurent and Moschino models had on a dark smokey eye to go with the grunge outfits they were modelling. Whether it was a cat eye, glitter or shadow, the smokey eye can be rocked this fall with a nude lip.

Urban Decay’s Smoky Palette ($54) and Nyx’s The Smokey Eyeshadow Pallette ($7.49) have the perfect blacks, silver and dark colors to create fun looks.

Highlight your life

It’s increasingly obvious that highlighters are this makeup generation’s favorite item. Balmain and Valentino models were doused with some serious highlighter, giving a young and glowy look. For those who aren't a fan of the “modern gothic” trend, you can give your fall makeup a little bit of glow with a highlighter.

Becca is the top for the best highlighters, with Champagne Pop ($38) being the best of the best. L’Oreal is our close second, with the True Match Lumi Powder ($12.99) in Golden.

This fall brings upon dark lips and eyes, creating a modern goth look. Whether you embrace these fall trends or not, always remember that makeup is a fun way to express yourself. Have fun with it!
