AU Women’s Soccer loses 10th straight game

AU fell 3-0 to the Boston University Terriers on Oct. 26 at Nickerson Field in Boston, marking the Eagles’ 10th straight loss. The loss marks AU’s worst conference record since it went 1-7 while a member of the Colonial Athletic Association in 2000.

Senior forward Taylor Krebs, junior forward Jenna Fisher and junior midfielder Clare Pleuler netted goals for the Terriers. Boston (11-4-3, 5-1-2 PL) forced AU (3-14-0, 0-8-0 PL) to play defensively the entire match, and senior goalkeeper Charlene Belanger made 11 saves for AU, keeping them in the game. The Terriers blitzed the AU defense early and often, recording 18 total shots and winning eight corner kicks.

Freshman midfielder Kira Flaherty and sophomore forward Michaela Garcia recorded the lone two shots for the Eagles, but AU failed to record a single shot on goal. The Terriers struck first in the 24th minute when Krebs finished a shot off a feed from senior midfielder Jamie Turchi. The AU defense ensured the Eagles trailed by only one goal heading into halftime despite the Terrier’s eight shots on goal.

The Terriers offensive pressure increased in the second half and the Eagles were unable to keep the Boston offense at bay. In the 53rd minute, Belanger blocked a shot from senior forward Ana Cuffia, but Fisher finished the play from close range for a goal. Pleuler rounded out the scoring in the 79th minute when she took a feed from forward Alex Schlobohm, beat a defender off the dribble and fired the ball past Belanger.

AU has one final opportunity to earn a conference win this season when they return home to face Colgate on Nov. 1 for Senior Day.

The best they can do is end the season in a tie for ninth in the Patriot League standings, but the Eagles will not qualify for the Patriot League Tournament. Since joining the Patriot League in 2001, AU has finished the season with at least two conference game wins.
