TEDx to debut at AU

TEDx will hold its first forum at AU on April 26 based on the pre-determined theme “Our Global Future” to emphasize innovation and global connections.

The program will run from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. in the Abramson Founders Room.

TEDx is an event organized independently through a grant by TED that “supports independent organizers who want to create a TED-like event in their own community,” according to the TEDx website.

TEDx will debut at AU because organizers such as Tyler Steinhardt, a sophomore in the School of International Service, thought the discussion topic would appeal to students and faculty.

“When we were looking at taking TEDx to American University we thought our theme fit with the University and the School of International Service,” Steinhardt said.

Speakers have not been finalized yet. Students, faculty and the local community are encouraged to apply to be a speaker for the event, according to Steinhardt. The organizers can be contacted at tedxamericanuniversity@gmail.com.

The event will be filmed and be available online after the event, and a live stream is planned, according to Steinhardt.

Tickets will be distributed by lottery through an online system. AU students will receive preference in the distribution process, according to Steinhardt. There are 100 tickets in total for the event during the day.
