Lacrosse snaps losing streak with victory over Mount St. Mary's

The AU lacrosse team snapped its three-game losing streak after defeating Mount St. Mary’s by 11-9 on March 5 in Emittsburg Md.

“It was a solid win with our defense holding them to nine goals and our offense maintaining control of the ball,” head coach Emma Wallace told AU Eagles.com.

The Mountaineers (1-3, 0-0 NEC) struck first in the contest when Lindsay Diaz scored a shot by Eagle senior goalkeeper Ashley Dalisera. AU (2-4, 0-0 PL) responded with a goal of its own from junior attacker Jamie Silverman at the 26:38 mark.

Mount St. Mary’s scored again to take a lead at 21:34. The Eagles responded a minute and 14 seconds later when sophomore attacker Jessica Wojciechowski scored to put the Eagles up.

The goal from Wojciechowski would be the first of three straight to give the Eagles a two-goal lead.

Kelly Maloney scored for the Mountaineers to make it a one goal game at 4-3 with 16:46 remaining.

AU continued to apply the offensive pressure with another two goals to extend the lead. In
all the Eagles scored 10 first half goals and go into the break winning 10-5.

Senior attacker Alex Lugovina scored her third of the game at 27:34 in the second half, marking the last AU score of the game.

Mount St. Mary’s went on the offensive scoring four straight to make it a two possession game with 12:28 left in the game.

The AU defense held strong and prevented the Mountaineers from scoring any more goals and hold on to win 11-9.

Lugovina was the Eagle’s scoring leader with the hat trick, she was followed by sophomore midfielder Terese Buechli and Silverman.

Dalisera picked up her first win of the season splitting the goaltending duties with freshman Jackie Ferri.

The Eagles will open conference play March 8 when they host Boston University at Jacobs Field.
