Cross country takes home first place

The AU men’s and women’s cross country took team titles at the Oct. 19 Leopard Invitational.

AU’s men’s team swept the podium in the event, beating out second place Cortland State University with a score of 21.

Junior Nick Regan won his third individual title of the season, taking the event of 25:24.50. Regan had previously won the Paul Short Invitational and the Catholic University Invitational.

Following Regan was senior John Pope who recorded a time of 25:39.34 to take second and freshman Brendan Johnson took home third with a 25:40.82

The Eagles notched two more set of back-to-back finishers as sophomore Joshua Ellis and junior Tom Woermer placed seventh and eighth respectively. Then senior Matiss Bataragas came in 11th and freshman Peter Rowe came in 12th. Senior Constantine Matsakis placed 18th in the event with a time of 26:25.96.

The Eagles women’s team won the event with a total score of 55 beating out Patriot League rival Bucknell University.

AU’s best performer on the women’s side was senior Julia Sullivan who took home second place in the race with a time of 22:21.46. This is the second time this season that Sullivan was the highest finishing runner on the Eagle’s side. She placed fifth at the Navy Invitational earlier this season, which set a meet best for the team.

The Eagles’ next best finisher in the event was freshman Corina Velazco who came in 11th at 22:44.61. Freshman Julienne DeVita came in 12th and senior Krystal Foster came in 14th to round out the Eagle runners on the women’s side with a time of 22:45.13 and 22:50.76, respectively. Freshman Reagan Kolakowski finished in 16th with a time of 22:55.50.
