Crane of mass destruction: first flag pole, now MGC steps

The same crane that damaged the flag pole on the Main Quad caused a depression in the pavement outside the Mary Graydon Center, according to AU officials.

The crane was used to place a green roof on the top of the building March 5.

The University believed the road could support the weight, according to Stephanie DeStefano, the grounds operations coordinator.

AU has leveled out the area to fix the depression, she said.

DeStefano believes the damage might have been caused by rain, softening the ground.

She said she is not sure who will cover the cost of the damage.

AU did not have any contract with the company that owned the crane, according to William Suter, director of Facilities Management.
