EYES FORWARD - No. 8 junior defender Dor Yasur looks to break upfield in the Eagles' recent victory over Georgetown. Yasur was key to their win on Saturday against Holy Cross, scoring his first goal of the season.

Men's soccer soars into first in PL

Thanks to junior defender Dor Yasur's first goal of the season, the AU men's soccer team remains undefeated in Patriot League play this season, following a 1-0 victory over College of the Holy Cross at Reeves Field Saturday. The win improves the Eagles' record to 7-5-2 and 3-0-1 in the league, which was good enough for first place.

AU came out of the gate red hot, controlling play throughout the first half. Sophomore defender Nick Kapus provided the best scoring chance of the opening period, ripping a shot that Crusaders junior goalkeeper Thomas Booth made a great save to keep the game scoreless heading into halftime.

The Eagles finally broke the tie in the 65th minute of play, as Yasur took a shot from 35 yards out and beat Booth to give AU the 1-0 advantage.

Holy Cross threatened to tie the game throughout the remainder of the half, but freshman goalkeeper Matt Makowski came up big, collecting four saves for his third consecutive league shutout and fifth overall.

"This was the best game we've played this season," AU head coach Todd West told AUeagles.com. "Our possession and defense was great and from our goalkeeper to the forwards, we put together a total performance."

The Eagles play their final non-conference game of the season at 7 p.m. Tuesday, as they travel to the University of Virginia to play the Cavaliers.
