Researchers declare Spring Break 2007 'best ever'

This past spring break was the "best ever," according to a study conducted by a team of researchers at American University.

Ninety-six per cent of students had more fun this year than they did during "all other spring breaks combined," according to the study. The study, which was conducted by AU's Institute of Revelry Studies, examined varying levels of "off the hook" parties occurring during the 2007 spring break period.

John Hutchins, a professor of mathematics and statistics, lead a group of 16 experts from various fields.

"For years, we had heard rumors that each spring break was better than the last," Hutchins said. "This research validates that assumption."

Spring break 2007 included 50 percent more "random craziness," according to the study, which polled approximately 4,000 undergraduates. Hutchins said his team of researchers spent several weeks compiling data and interviews before publishing its findings, which he called the "most exhaustive study of hot co-ed partying to date."

"We found that a good spring break is composed of several ingredients: raging parties, complete freedom and hot guys and girls," Hutchins said.

"Dude, there were so many hot girls this year," said Brandon Colussi, a senior in the Kogod School of Business.

Students were more likely to experience maximum partying in locations like Cancun, Miami and Las Vegas, according to the study.

"I went to Cancun for spring break, and it was awesome! My tan looks great," said Jessica Horowitzesez, a sophomore in the School of International Studies.

However, 4 percent of students polled called spring break 2007 "less insane than past years." Tyler Morrison, a junior in SIS, agrees.

"I hate to be a buzz kill, but there is no way this spring break was the best ever. We mustn't forget the epic keg stand competition of 2005."

Students who didn't experience "killer parties" this spring break were often visiting relatives, working or doing schoolwork, according to the study.

"This research has made me conclude that the four percent of students we didn't have fun must be pretty lame," Hutchins said.

"I mean, what kind of nerd does homework during spring break?"

"I don't even remember half of what happened during spring break," Colussi added.

"Wooooo! Spring break"
