Eagle Weekend Sports Briefs

Indoor Track: Dec. 3 at Navy Invite

The AU indoor track team competed in their first meet of the season in the Navy Invitational on Friday, picking up two individual first place finishes in the process.

Juniors Steve Hallinan and Brian McCabe, along with senior Brendan Fennell, were able to build off of their experience at the NCAA cross-country championships by finishing first, second and third respectively in the 3,000-meter race.

Hallinan won the race with a time of 8:22.21, while McCabe finished with a personal best of 8:27.61.

In the 5,000-meter race junior Carlos Jamieson finished with a time of 15:01.35 for the victory, just ahead of teammate Conor Lanz. Dustin Emrani was able to win the slow section of the mile for AU with a time of 4:32.39 while senior Alex Caudana took fourth in the 800-meter race.

Swimming and Diving: Nov. 19 at Patriot Invite

Meghan Thiel led the nine top-five finishes at the Patriot Invite at George Mason over the weekend.

Thiel, the 2006 Patriot League Swimmer of the Meet, grabbed first in the 200, 500 and 1,650 freestyle races, with times of 1:51.68, 4:49.64 and 16:46.24 respectively. The final two times came in under the NCAA "B" qualifying standards.

Senior captain Kaitlin Moughty picked up three top-five finishes of her own, finishing second in the 400 IM, third in the 200 IM and fourth in the 200 backstroke.

Led by Matt Bank and Chris Leggett, the juniors finished fourth in the championship finals of the 100 fly and the 50 free, respectively.


Section 202 host Gabrielle and friends go over some sports that aren’t in the sports media spotlight often, and review some sports based on their difficulty to play.
