Campus Brief: AU student wins Truman scholar

American University's third Truman Scholar in five years, Forrest Dunbar, won the highest honor for a U.S. student seeking a career in public service, as well as the prestigious scholarship's $30,000 prize.

About 15 percent of more than 1,000 juniors who apply win the scholarship each year. Three other AU students were finalists.

Dunbar, who grew up in Alaska, is majoring in International Relations and General Economics with a minor in Japanese Language. He is a member of College Democrats and Alpha Phi Omega community service fraternity. He interned with Congresswoman Madeleine Z. Bordallo (D-Guam) during his first two years at AU.

Christina Arnold won the scholarship in 2003 and Liz Gritter won in 2000. In 2003 five scholarship finalists were from AU, the most from a single university.

Section 202 hosts Connor Sturniolo and Gabrielle McNamee are joined by fellow Eagle staff member and phenomenal sports photographer, Josh Markowitz. Follow along as they discuss the United Football League and the benefits it provides for the world of professional football.
