Men’s outdoor track team claims top three places in 5,000-meter race

The AU men’s outdoor track team finished with four of the top 10 places in the 5,000-meter run when it competed with the women’s outdoor track team at the Morgan State Legacy Meet in Baltimore, Md. on April 19.

The AU men’s team took the the top three places in the 5,000-meter race. Only three seconds separated the three fastest runners in the 5,000-meter race.

Freshman Brendan Johnson led the way, winning first place with his completed time of 15:38.24.

Juniors Thomas Woermer and Nick Regen crossed the finish line soon after their teammate. Woermer finished in second place with a mark of 15:39.36, and Regen followed after him with a time of 15:40.42.

Junior Ian Lutz rounded out AU’s dominating performance in the 5,000-meter race. Lutz finished in seventh place in the 5,000-meter run with a time of 15:50.42.

Senior Krystal Foster led the women’s track team with her first place finish in the 5,000-meter race with a time of 18:05.11.

The men’s track team was also dominant in 1,500-meter run, earning two of the top 10 spots. Sophomore Joshua Ellis finished in second place with a time of 3:55.93 and freshman Peter Rowe finished in fourth place with a mark of 3:58.69.

Two AU runners finished in the top ten for the women’s track team in their respective races. Senior Julia Sullivan finished in fifth place in the 1,500-meter race with a time of 4:44.16. Sophomore Kelseagh Budris finished No. 10 in the 800-meter race with her recorded time of 2:16.77.

The men’s team finished in ninth place overall with a total of 39 points. The women’s team finished in 17th place with a total of 14 points.

The next meet for AU men’s and women’s track teams will take place at the 120th running of the Penn Relays at the University of Pennsylvania in Philadelphia from April 24 through April 26.
