Do not deScrabble your TV

Just imagine for a moment the future of sports in America. In the future, your ability to become rich and famous through competition will no longer be based on your strength, physical prowess or athletic ability. Instead, anyone will be able to become famous, be on ESPN and make a good living without ever having to run a mile or throw a pass.

Record Finish for Wrestling

AU wrestler Daniel Waters had been through a lot before making it to last weekend's NCAA Championships in St. Louis. Before transferring to AU two years ago, the 28-year-old senior had to watch the title bouts from the sideline at Penn State, and before that he was even farther from the college mat as a Navy SEAL.

It Should've Been Us

Five years ago, American University left behind the Triple A lifestyle for the big leagues of the Patriot League, or so it thought. And in these big leagues, AU was supposed to become the New York Yankees, a team so dominant every aspect, that its academics, location, athletics, excitement would be the envy of the Holy Cross' and the Lafayette's of the league.

Men's hoops crashes in PL semifinals

If the final act of the Eagles' season followed any script, it reeked of bitter existentialism. For the first time in four tries, the AU Men's Basketball team (16-12, 8-6 in the Patriot League) fell short of the PL finals, crashing to a 53-35 defeat at Bucknell in a March 6 PL semifinal before 3,212 hostile fans at Sojka Pavillion in Lewisburg, Pa.

After committing to the University for four years less than one year ago, some freshman feel now that they have been placed in an almost impossible situation.

Spring Break. For every student, it is different. Some will venture to beach resorts in Florida, Mexico, or the Caribbean, tanning all day and then partying all night. Others will journey to visit family, friends, and scenery that they haven't seen in a couple months and miss dearly.

Men off to the Boonies

For the last three seasons, the AU Men's Basketball team entered the Patriot League tournament paired against the league's archetypal lightweights: Army or Navy. In years past, that signaled a clinical first-round win against an overmatched opponent after a regular season in which AU finished no worse than second.
