The AU women's soccer team hasn't had much luck so far this season, falling victim to a number of sloppy losses and dormant offensive performances. Yet, the Eagles haven't given up on the season, perhaps hoping the rest of the fall should offer some second chances.
Men's soccer's drops both matches to Ivy Leaguers at Yale Classic In the prelude to its Patriot League opener, the AU men's soccer team suffered a heartbreaking defeat at the hands of Yale on Sunday, 3-2 in overtime. Competing at the Yale Classic in New Haven, Conn.
When people think of the Superdome in 25 years, they won't be thinking of the memorable sports moments that have occurred there, but the shocking and horrific images of the aftermath of Hurricane Katrina. The Superdome has been home to Super Bowls, Final Fours and heavyweight championship matches.
The AU women's volleyball team got the NCAA tournament rehearsal it wanted. It just couldn't get the win. The Eagles dropped three in a row - including two sweeps to top 25 teams - at the San Diego Invitational last weekend. AU (5-7) didn't win a game at the hands of No.
Tuesday, Sept. 20 Women's Soccer: 3 p.m. vs. George Washington Volleyball: 7 p.m. at Georgetown Friday, Sept 23 Volleyball: 7 p.m. vs. Bucknell Saturday, Sept 24 Men's Soccer: 1 p.m. v. Lafayette Volleyball: 2 p.m. vs. Colgate
Thankfully coaches don't get paid for pretty wins alone, otherwse AU field hockey coach Steve Jennings would need a temporary loan. After an arduous win Sunday against Towson, 2-1, nobody sees the problem more than him. The Eagles (7-0) found another victory for the standings, but uncovered a new issue: effort.
One of these days, AU volleyball coach Barry Goldberg will tell you, his team is going to pull off the big win. It's all just a matter of keeping on doing what they're doing and sooner or later, they're bound to get a break. That's what the Eagles (5-4) will be hoping for this weekend in San Diego in their last chance against powerhouse programs before the NCAA tournament in December.
The AU women's soccer team suffered yet another tough loss Wednesday, 2-0, at Georgetown, dropping its season record to 2-5-0. After a scoreless first half, the Hoyas (5-1-1) dominated the second stanza, taking eight shots, including four on goal. As has been a problem throughout this season, the Eagles struggled to maintain the energy level they had in the first half.
Let me give you a little insight into what I've been thinking about for the past week: Why do people in the town continue to follow the Redskins? Don't you understand that Paris Hilton spends money more wisely than Dan Snyder? I understand they were good 10 years ago, but so was Coolio.
Each fall, I return to Nebraska Avenue psyched about the upcoming collegiate soccer, field hockey, and volleyball seasons. Sure, the annual thrill of dropping dead inches short of a Patriot League men's basketball title and an NCAA bid each March is worth the price of tuition alone.
Volleyball set back at Pitt Volleyball Classic The AU Women's Volleyball team suffered a disappointing weekend at the Pitt Volleyball Classic, dropping both of its matches against Pittsburgh and Maryland. In the first game against Pittsburgh the Eagles fought back from an early 2-0 deficit only to lose in five games, 3-2.
Finally, the AU men's soccer game won its first game of the year Sunday at Reeves Field, pummeling Drexel 5-0 on a therapeutic afternoon for what, until then, had been a frustrated offense. The Eagles (1-2-1) pounded a staggering 29 shots toward Drexel's goal, while the Dragons (1-1-1) rarely threatened AU's end.
For AU Women's Soccer coach Michael Brady, it doesn't matter that his team is 3-1 in its last four games. The real deal is that the Eagles (3-3-0) allowed Iona's lone second-half shot to become an insurance goal and mustered few scoring chances in Sunday's 3-1 loss to the Gaels (1-3-1).
COLLEGE PARK, Md. - Even without its leading scorer, the AU field hockey team still finds a way to win. The Eagles remained unbeaten this season by winning their fifth and sixth straight games over Pac-10 foes Stanford and Cal this weekend at the Terrapin Invitational hosted by the University of Maryland.
For one brief, shinning moment it looked as if tennis' comeback king could summon the magic once more. At 35 years old Andre Agassi, the oldest Grand Slam finalist in 31 years, did something few tennis players have done recently: he won a set against the top player in the world, 24 year-old Rodger Federer.
Right now it's Thursday as you read this. You're starting to think about the weekend, what you're going to do, where you're going to eat, who your beer pong partner's going to be. Yet before you make plans, let me give you a little advice on what you're going to do for the next five nights.
The NFL kicks off its season tonight with the debut of Randy Moss in a Raider uniform and a Crennel/Weiss-less Patriot's sideline. With that in mind, a look at how the league will stack up this season. AFC East, Pick: Patriots It's tough to pick against a team that has won three of the past four Super Bowls but this could be a tougher challenge than many anticipate.
Volleyball wins twice matches in Manhattan tournament The AU women's volleyball team cruised to a pair of easy 3-0 victories this weekend en route to clinching the Jasper Volleyball Invitational in Riverdale, N.Y., Saturday. In the championship against Manhattan, senior Cutrina Biddulph slammed 15 kills, while sophomore Chelsa Brooks added seven kills, one block and four block assists.
AU men's soccer coach Todd West knows bad injuries. Almost three years ago he witnessed then-freshman Freddy Llerena's gruesome leg-snap after a tackle in a friendly against Major League Soccer team D.C. United. Llerena was able to play again after the compound tibia fracture.
