“The Sense of an Ending” is a beguiling tale about selective history

It seems inevitable for us that we misremember our own histories. We are, after all, selfish and forgetful beings. And, as a character says in director Ritesh Batra’s “The Sense of an Ending,” “history is that certainty produced at the point where the imperfections of memory meet the inadequacies of documentation.” For Tony, the protagonist of the film, his own recollections - about himself and his past - are challenged when he is unexpectedly inherits money and a diary from his college lover’s mother, Sarah (Emily Mortimer).

"Rogue One" resonates in a way "The Force Awakens" could not

We have entered a time period of extreme polarization. While we do not have X-wings, Imperial shuttles or droids, our means of fighting have taken root in other forms of reaction and opposition. Rogue One: A Star Wars Story knows its place in the current political climate and is self aware enough to create a narrative that challenges the binary of simply good versus evil. It’s a lesson that resonates with me and will likely resonate with any viewer who has bore the heavy weight of the past year on their shoulders.

Movie Review: Moonlight conveys what intimacy and vulnerability means in a culture that rejects feeling

We often forget how lonely it is to be a child. There is a sense of isolation, yearning and longing in youth; a type of wondering and wanting for things we cannot express because we do not know them yet. The vulnerability of youth, the pain of being taught to hate yourself and the walls we create to protect ourselves from the truth are all perfectly articulated in Barry Jenkins’ Moonlight.
